Engage embaded in Story Line

Aug 12, 2021

Hello E-learning heroes,

I need help! I'm building a course in Story Line and at a specific moment I need to embedd/import an engage file with a chat between 2 characters in my SL file.

In engage I've selected in Playback mode that the user can advance in any order (by clicking the next/previous buttons). For my students it is important that they can click on these buttons so that they can read the info on their own pace and go back any time they need to.

The problem is that in SL I must use a house style, therefore I'm not using the next/previous buttons from the player (they are always on off) but our own buttons for next/previous. Therefore even if in Engage I've chosen to advance with previous/next buttons, as the file is imported in SL it changes the options automatically.

Could it be that I'm doing something wrong? Could it be that I can find a solution to my issue without changing the settings in SL?

Many thanks in advance,

Irina

Hello Irina, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊

Thank you for reaching out and sharing what you are experiencing when embedding your Engage interaction in Storyline.

You're not doing anything wrong, but for this embedded interaction to use the Storyline navigation, it will use the default methods and not your custom design.

An alternative may be to create this interactivity within Storyline so that you can continue to use your custom design. This article can help you get started.

Hi Leslie, I am not sure if this is the same issue that I have but I can see that the settings I have in Engage doesn't follow to Storyline when I import the slide. For ex like mentioned above, the Next and Previous Buttons is not shown at all so you can just use the same as when you are shifting to next slide. Do I understand you correctly that the settings I have in Engage is not transfered to Storyline then?
