Animations stop after first one

Jan 10, 2014

I was hoping it was just one course, but now I have another one that runs fine in PowerPoint 10 but when I publish it, only one animation runs. If I have anything listed as "After previous", it never shows.  I don't have any narration so it isn't an audio vs. animation length issue.  Is this an Articulate 13 glitch?  I searched for some time and didn't find any other posts on the subject.

Hi Deborah,

Sorry to hear about the trouble - hopefully we can find out what's causing this issue.

First, can you tell me how you're viewing the published presentation, please? Are you viewing the published output files locally, or are you uploading to a web server or LMS?

If you're viewing your published files locally, this may be the problem. If you view a published Studio '13 or '09 presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the article below for more information:

Tips for Managing Project Files

  • I suggest using SCORM Cloud for your course - it's a great place to test SCORM content.
  • Another option would be to use our Tempshare server. Just keep in mind that this server is only available for testing content - it is not officially supported by Articulate and all content will be removed automatically after 10 days.
  • You're always welcome to try out Articulate Online, as well - it's available for a free 30 day trial.

If you're uploading to a web server or LMS, please try clearing your browser cache. If that doesn't help, try viewing the project in a different web browser.

Here are the download links for the most popular browsers, just in case you don't have them:

Let me know if you still have trouble viewing your content after trying the suggestions above.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, that didn’t work.  I am publishing to HealthStream and have successfully published numerous other courses.  I have tried to attach the zip file as well as the PPT for your review. (I don't see them as attached)  Thanks for any guidance you can offer! J  The issue starts at slide 5.

Hi Deborah,

Thanks for sharing the files!

I uploaded the ZIP file you provided to our Tempshare server for testing:

Testing for Deborah

I see animation on slide 5, but it looks like they aren't showing up on slide 6 & 7. The text on slide 8 does appear to be working. Looks like it comes up again on slide 12 as well.

For the actual project, however, are you able to share a Presenter Package? I won't be able to access all of the options and project files with the PPTX file you attached initially.

Articulate Support - How to Create an Articulate Package

If you could share that with me, I'd appreciate it!

Thank you :)

Hi Deborah,

Thank you very much for the files! I apologize for the delay in response, I was out of the office yesterday.

I took a look at the project and I see the animations now that you were referring to  - makes it so much easier to see the project and know exactly what's missing this way :)

I published and uploaded from the file, without any changes, to Articulate Online:

Testing for Deborah

I see them now in this version on 6 - when I viewed the other version they weren't showing up at all for me.

Can you take a look at this and let me know if you see an improvement as well?

If so, please make sure you're publishing with the latest '13 update:

Download Articulate Studio '13 Update 1

Thanks!

Hi Deborah,

Just wanted to let you know that I've been working with your file. I do see now where there's 3 text and images animating, but 3 others that are not (on slide 6).

I'm going to continue looking into this, and have a colleague of mine take a look as well.

I'll update the thread as soon as I have more information.

Thanks!

Christine Hendrickson

Hi Deborah,

Ok - I got stuck with this and I couldn't figure out why the animations wouldn't function properly. I tried removing them and reassigning them, but I had no luck.

I reached out to my colleague, Adrian Dean, and he took a look as well. He agrees that they should be working properly with how they are set up. He wasn't able to get them working with the way they're animated either, however.

He did discover that if you use the Articulate Sync Animation tool they will work.

You'll want to navigate to Slide 6 and click on the "Sync Animations" button.

From here click on "Start Sync" and let the slide play out with the animations.

Once it's finished, click on "Stop", then "Save and Close".

Now, when the project or slide is previewed, the animations are showing up properly. I made these changes to slide 6 and 7, which weren't working properly for me before.

I've also attached the modified package files.

I'll also be reporting the animation to our Quality Assurance team for additional testing. You shouldn't need to use the Sync Animation tool, but hopefully this will work as a workaround for the time being.

I apologize for the trouble, Deborah. Hopefully we'll have more information on this soon.

Thank you!

Hi there,

I'm having the same issue - where exactly is the Sync Animations button?? That might be the fix I need for my presentation.

Thank you!

Christine Hendrickson

Hi Deborah,

You are very welcome! Thank you so much for your patience as well. Hopefully we'll have more information on the bug itself and a solution soon.

Hi there Laura and welcome to the community!

Are you using Presenter '09 or '13? In either case, the option will be along the Presenter/Articulate ribbon in PowerPoint.

Let me know if you have trouble finding that.

Thanks - I hope you both have a great day :)

Is there another way I can do this? Or as an alternative, should I try the trial of Presenter (is there one?) I've gotten everything else but this this wrinkle ironed out on this presentation, so your input is most appreciated.

I've just purchased a copy of the Storyline after using it for a trial period to get a client 's project. She has other courses she wants me to convert, so I thought Storyline would be the one to buy.  Please advise as quickly as you can.

Thank you!

Laura

HI Laura,

I'm afraid if you're using Storyline, it'll be an entirely different issue.

Can you tell me what version of Storyline you're currently using? The most recent update was Update 5 (released yesterday).

What happens with your animations?

Are you able to share the .STORY file here, so I can take a look?

Thanks!

Laura Wharton

Here's what I was able to do:

I used the Free Trial of Presenter. I managed to get the files all in sync.

Next, because the client said the screen was not full sized, and the sound was not synced (he was listening to FTP), I imported the PP to Storyline (which I purchased last week - not sure how to determine version). Now the sound is great, the screen looks full, but the animations are not functioning. I didn't build them, so I'm trying to edit layers. The tutorial suggests I should be able to get to a "hide" window, but I'm not seeing that (because the animation was built as one layer, I'm guessing, with a transparency over the top to hide what wasn't needed for the slide).

Any suggestions on how to address these files? They are named "diagram" (about eight slides).

Thanks!

Laura

Christine Hendrickson

Hi Laura,

I see - i wasn't aware you were importing from PowerPoint with animations.

I took a look at the "Diagram" slides and I don't see anything really clear on what should be happening. I do see some images on top of other images with some animations, but from what I can see, they're exactly the same as the original image on the slide. For example, in slide 1.42 Diagram: Symbols, Arrows I see the arrows as an image, but if you move those, the same arrows appear in the main image of the layout.

Do you know what type of animations were added in PowerPoint? It might be best to make sure you're using support animations.

  • Animations and slide transitions:  PowerPoint entrance and exit animations are supported in Storyline and will be imported—though some will be converted to Fade animations. Similarly, some PowerPoint slide transitions are supported in Storyline, while others get converted to Fade transitions. Emphasis animations and motion paths are not supported and will not be imported into Storyline.  Click here for details.

I am having the same problems with Studio 13. My animations stop after the first one plays. If I use the Sync animations button, it resolved the problem. However, we're in the process of converting hundreds of Studio 09 courses, published for Web viewing to Studio 13, SCORM. Using Sync for every page will take forever. When will this be fixed?

Dianne Holley Mountain

Thanks. I ultimately changed the first animation on each slide to be With Previous instead of On Click, and it seemed to make the Sync Animations process work smoother. A co-worker always uses With Previous, and he says all his animations always work, so I will explore that as another possible workaround. Appreciate the help. You guys are great!

I am having this same issue with Articulate360 Presenter. My animations only work on the first slide I time them. the rest of the slides, even with the animations set exactly the same as the slide they work on, do not work on any remaining slides. On my ribbon I do NOT have a "Sync Animations" option (only Import Audio and Audio Editor). Please advise on this issue.

Lauren Connelly

Hi Don!

I'm happy to help! It's difficult to tell why the animations aren't working on the remaining slides without seeing your project. Would you mind uploading the Articulate Package to our team in a support case? We'll let you know when we receive the file and reply with our findings as soon as possible.
