Animation in Storyline through the Morph Transition

Nov 12, 2018

Some time ago, PowerPoint came out with a transition called Morph that literally morphs shapes, colors, strokes, graphics, etc. from one slide to the next. In other words, if you build a design on one slide, duplicate the slide, and make changes to the shapes on the second slide, the Morph transition will smoothly deform the shapes from the first slide to the next.

This transition is POWERFUL for animation. I feel that small animations of this kind are especially important for a product like Storyline. In a sense, the ability to build animations is one of the key features that I feel is missing from Storyline. If Articulate would consider adding the Morph transition to Storyline, it would allow users to animate the graphics on the screen with triggers, and I believe that would open up new worlds of possibility with Storyline.

Is this something you all would consider adding to Storyline?

Hi Harry,

This feature has not been added at this time.

I wanted to share some information about how we manage these feature requests as that may be helpful.

I'll leave the creative design ideas to the community, but I do know that Roy mentioned, "Currently, I do my morphing in Powerpoint and export as a video to insert in Storyline", so perhaps that can help get you started.

I agree, Storyline would really have a leg up on other tools with more animation possibilities.  It is similar to when Authorware was around with Director, Authorware was great for development ease and Director timeline based and more media friendly, then came Flash!  Flash seemed to replace both tools and not only allowed great development, but animation as well.

If Articulate pulled from the Flash archives some of those features, such as motion and shape tweening, similar to what the Morph is doing in Powerpoint, that would create endless opportunities!

Please add Morph capabilities to StoryLine!  It would enable us to create even more creative and powerful animations, easier and faster.

Adding Morph to Storyline would help make Articulate even more powerful.  Having the Morph function in Articulate would be a real game changer for IDs&Ds and all types of presentations.

If we had the Morph feature it definitely would meaningfully improve the experience of working with Articulate software. Having the Morph feature would open up a whole world of creativity and time savings for us.  And yes, it will benefit a majority of users.

And it would be a powerful selling feature for Articulate to help capture more of the authoring tools market share.

My vote as well.  The morph transition seems like obvious low hanging fruit.  It always feels backwards to me when I import an excellent PowerPoint and have to strip out a feature that makes the presentation modern and engaging.  It's a step in the wrong direction, design-wise.  It's been nearly a year since the initial request here and I'm sorry to hear that there aren't even plans in discussion to add this feature.

Please, please, please add morph..  It changes everything. It is the primary transition I use in powerpoint that literally replaces 90% of the graphic animations I previously used - all in less time and minimal effort.  I believe this is a critical miss in Storyboard.  Note that the iSpring suite supports morph.  I am using iSpring for now until articulate and storyboard can add this feature... the inavailability of morph really adds too much rework for us.   Is there a current ETA for this?
