Can't switch to the Classic Menu in Storyline

Nov 06, 2023

I was testing changing settings in Storyline for options with no menu & controls as we will be using it in Rise as a block and will be using buttons to direct navigation for a choose-your-own-adventure item.

I was reading a discussion about trouble on mobile phones when embedding Storyline into Rise, it suggested changing the player to classic so I went to do this.

I started with a completely blank slate, a project that only has one blank slide in it. In the Player Properties, I turned off all Player Tabs, Player Features, Player Controls and Menus & Controls. When I try to switch the Player Style from Modern to Classic, I get a message saying the project has features which are only supported in the modern player (the feature being streaming video).

When you click the Learn More in the message pop-up, you are redirected to information that doesn’t help in this situation as it tells you “To restore compatibility with the classic player, select the static video quality.” But again, there isn’t a video, or anything at all in the project yet, so there is nowhere to select the video quality.

Is this a possible glitch, or am I missing where the setting is that needs to be changed for video quality or is there just no way to use the Classic menu anymore? My Storyline is the most up-to-date version of 3.80.31058.0

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

Hi Jackie,

Happy to help!

Creating a new project, uses Modern Player and Streaming Video by default. You need to first select Static Video from within the Quality dialog in the publish dialog and then you can change it back to Classic Player. Here's a recording which shows how to switch back to the Classic player.

Let me know if you need anything else!
