Connect/Link different Scorm packages

Jul 06, 2021

Hi,

This is the first time I am writing a post so apologies if I am not following any rules or guidelines.

I am working on a project where I have designed (through SL) a main portal/menu for the customer where their learners/employees will join and depending on their role they will select a category. Each category will have its own lessons and the learner will be able to select a lesson to proceed.

The problem now that I am implementing it and have more knowledge about how LMS and SCORM packages work I found out that if I have everything in a single scorm package the reporting and exam assessment for each user will be limited.

To fix this I though that I could keep the menu as one SCORM package, then create each class in a different SCORM and then connect them with the main

Is there a way to connect these different scorm packages (classes) with the main module which its main purpose is to serve as a menu for the users?

That way the reporting would be made for each class separately.

I have also attached a draft powerpoint file that shows the layout of the module.

I would be grateful for any help or ideas.

Hello Mauricio, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊

Since the information Cleo shared was not sensitive to Christos, I'd be happy to share:

Yes, you are in the right direction of creating separate project files for each category since each has its own lessons and assessment. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Create the project files for each category.
  2. Publish these project files for LMS and upload them.
  3. Take note of the direct URLs to each course.
  4. Create a new project that will serve as your main navigation. Add buttons that bring the users to these courses depending on their category by using Jump to URL triggers where you can specify the URLs for each course (category).
  5. Publish the main navigation course for LMS and upload it. You can then use this to distribute to your learners.

With this setup, you will be tracking the users and their answers from the category courses you published.

Thanks for the information above. A couple more questions on this.

What trigger would you use to bring the learner back from the category "courses" to the Main Navigation "course"? Jump to URL? or something else?

If a learner jumps to one of the Category "courses" and a URL trigger takes them back to the main navigation "course", is there a way to direct them to a particular slide within that main navigation "course"? I would think a URL would just take them back to slide one, but is it possible that you can control where it takes them within that course?

If you can only have one slide in the navigation "course", will the navigation "course" remember the visited states when the learner jumps back from one of the category "courses"?

I'm confused by Leslie's last sentence about tracking users and their answers from the category "courses". Since the learner is only enrolled in the main navigation course I wouldn't have thought that it would be possible to track information from the category "courses".

I'm dealing with very large Storyline files (due to slide/image sizes and screen recordings) and am trying to find the best way to break things up for more manageable storyline files.
