Consequences of Selecting Reporting and Tracking options for SCORM in Storyline and Rise

Feb 25, 2022

I apologize for the length up front, but the backstory is important.

We have experienced an issue with our LMS as it pertains to stand alone assessments published in SCORM.

[EDIT] When an Associate takes the training and assessment as a Live Training and we input the score, it is logged by the LMS. But, if that Associate were to go back into the assessment in the LMS their score is changes to 100%.

When we brought this up to our LMS company they told us it is because the SCORM is sending back a score when the Associate activates the assessment in the LMS. They suggested we change the SCORM to not send back a score. But if we do that them NONE of the Associates who take the assessments will have a score documented in the LMS. That also (I think) requires us to change the coding of SCORM, which we do not have the skill sets to do.

My thought is that there is something with the options in publishing (tracking and recording) that may be beneficial.

Does anyone have a list of what happens on the back end when an developer selects one of the four options (Passed/Incomplete; Passed/Failed; Completed/Incomplete; or Completed Failed) and is it different between Rise and Storyline?

Do I need to post this in the Rise channel as well?

Thanks

Hi, Mark.

Thank you for reaching out!

I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean here:

When an Associate takes the training and assessment as a Live Training and we input the score, it is logged by the LMS. But, if that Associate were to go back into the assessment in the LMS their score is changes to 100%.

When you say "Live training", does it mean the associates are taking the assessment in a live classroom, and the scores are manually added to the LMS?

Do they have the option of taking the assessment either way?

I also wanted to share the article below that describes the different statuses for completion/success:

This discussion has a great explanation of the differences as well.

I hope this helps!

Maria, Yes, when we publish courses on our LMS we provide the option for each location to either have the Associate take the eCourse on their own, or there is a PowerPoint attachment that allows the location training team to present the material in a classroom setting.

If they choose a classroom setting the assessment is given and the scores are uploaded via a CSV file.

The information on Completed/Incomplete and Pass/Fail is great and helps me grasp the consequences.

What I gather is it is not what we select as the reporting of completion, rather how our LMS operates regarding changing the scores.

Thanks
