Converting shapes to motion paths

Is there a way to convert a shape (i.e., Rounded Rectangle) to a motion path? Or simply, move an object around a shape (without using the motion path tools in the animation tab)?

I need to move an object around a circular path (as seen below); however, I struggle with creating a smooth Motion Path from the animation tab.
