Dial / Layer Issues

Jul 15, 2021

I am attempting to recreate a dial and have different layers appear as the dial turns to represent various steps within a process. I've created the base slide and the layers but cannot figure out how to hide the base layer as the dial turns. It just shows the layer/ thus covering the dial.

I was hoping to recreate it to work something like this https://community.articulate.com/download/storyline-dial-infographic

Help much appreciated!

If it were mine, I'd

1. Change the background behind the dial to something muted, that complements, rather than competes with the dial. Maybe a company logo, or something that doesn't distract the learner by inviting them to decipher what it is.

2. Change the dial to be attached to the variable Dial1

3. Lay it out like in the sample. There are lots of ways to make a dial visible on each layer, and some of them may seem glamorous and attractive, but this one consumes the fewest resources, and is the most reliable.

4. Make a decision about advancing. Personally, I favor an overt action by the learner that says,. "I'm through here, and ready to go on." As it is, the timeline runs out and it advances, ready or not. That can be partially circumvented by setting each layer to pause the timeline on the base, but then you need learner action to restart the timeline. So you need to make a philosophical choice, but it probably won't work the way you want as is.

Hi Walt, thank you for your response and assistance. I was curious what you thought about these slides. I am attempting to make the 4 step process that are slides 1.16-1.19 into the dial. I tried following your lead but for some reason when I move the dial it stays there and i loose the ability to go back to the dial and go to the next step. Can you help me again :) Thank you.

I like the look a lot better now.

I took the four slides in question, and  reworked them to keep the dial visible. (In case you want it, I also put a Done Button on the Step 1 Slide.) You may also want some sort of "Click to continue" indicator on the layers - I just put the triggers.
