Drag and Drop activity doesn't work when revisited

Mar 30, 2021

I have a Trigger I created that has the user drag an object over another object and when successful it brings them to the next slide.  It works fine the first time, but if the user clicks the Previous button to try it again, it won't move.

I have it set to Reset to Initial state.

Thanks and I have uploaded the Drag and Drop slide as well as the slide right after.

Has there been a fix for this?

We're currently updating several projects in which the trigger "dragged over" is used (and until now worked fine!). Now we have the same problem - it works once but when you go back to the slide you cannot move the object anymore. The slides are also set to "Reset to Initial state".

Unfortunately, we cannot use the trigger "Dropped On" instead - it wouldn't make sense in our setup.

Some observations we made:

  • If you release the object (= stopp pressing the mouse down) before the next slide is loaded it works fine - you only get the problem if you keep the mouse pressed down. So we initially thought its a problem with the states. However, setting the state of the drag-object back to "normal" before you change to the next slide doesn't help. Deleting all states exept for the normal state doesn't help either.
  • The problem with this trigger appears both on drag-and-drop-slides and on "normal" slides.

We thought that maybe a short java-script that "unclicks" the mouse could help - but we couldn't test it as we don't know a command for this purpose...

If anyone has some insight into how to solve that problem I'm really greatful :)

Hello Jenny!

Our team has logged this issue where the trigger for an object to be dragged over isn't working if the same trigger has been executed on the previous slide as a software bug. Is that what you're running into as well?

I've explained this software bug in detail in this screen recording. The workaround is to use Object Dropped On rather than Object Dragged Over on the first slide.

Please let me know if you have additional questions!

Hello All!

I have great news to share! We are no longer seeing the issue where the trigger event 'object dragged over' is not working if the same trigger is executed in the previous slide.

To make sure your software is up-to-date, please launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and select the Update button next to Storyline 360. I've included our step-by-step instructions here!
