File in Resources Not Opening on Playback

Aug 05, 2022

Hello!

I've used this functionality many times in the past. I add a PDF file to Resources in the Player. Then, on a course slide I add a hyperlink with the instructions "story_content/external_files/FILENAME.PDF", when I play back the course in Review 360 or ScormCloud in Chrome, I get the following error message. The resource file was pulled in from my C drive, not too deep in the folder hierarchy, and the filename is spelled correctly (which I understand can cause this problem). I'm stumped!  Does anyone have any ideas to try? Thanks!

Hi William,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue. I'd like to ask a few questions to help clarify your experience:

  • Are you able to replicate the behavior using any PDF file?
  • Did you notice the behavior appear after upgrading your Storyline 360 installation?
  • Were you able to follow each step listed in this article

Additionally, would you be willing to upload a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can check what's happening? We'll delete it as soon as we're done troubleshooting.

Joe—Thanks much for your reply and this guidance. I went in an updated my Storyline 360 install, but still not working. I looked at your article and found that the issue, however, we that I had not enabled the Resources in the Player. I had used this feature before many times, but had not realized that the Resources feature needed to be enabled first. That looks like it did the trick! Thanks, again.
