Links showing at visited on subsequent slides, when visited on previous slides

Nov 16, 2023

So, I have some standard modal popups that I use, which are just layers with text and a close button, and I typically name them "modal 1", "modal 2", etc. So on a slide I assign a string of text in a textbox as a hyperlink and set the trigger to show layer "modal 1", and when clicked shows the layer with the text and close button. All good so far. However, if I have another instance of hyperlinked text on a subsequent slide anywhere else in the course and set the trigger to open the "modal 1" layer on that slide, the link is colored as visited (purple) when viewing the course when published. The last version that worked correctly in the July 27th version.

I submitted a bug report on this already, with John Carlo Sipagan, but as of 11/16/23 this is still a problem.

Hello, everyone! 👋

I wanted to share that we've released Storyline 360 (Build 3.84.31647.0) which includes the fix for the bug where hyperlink states didn't work as expected when navigating only with a keyboard or after duplicating a slide.

All you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app!

If you run into any issues, don't hesitate to reach out to our team by submitting a support case.

Have a great day and happy developing!

Hello Bill,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this snag.

I took a look at the bug report and saw that it is still currently open. The identified workaround is to downgrade your Storyline 360 installation to Update 79 while a fix becomes available. We'll be sure to  send you a message through the support case that you opened as soon as a fix is released!

I've experienced the same thing. When I click on a link on a slide, links in subsequent slides are set to the visited state, even on a first run through a course.

I haven't found a pattern to this behaviour - it happens with links to other layers and links to external websites. It happens with and without the modern player and upgraded project text.

I've found this behaviour in the latest couple of versions of Storyline, and in the x64 version.

It's quite frustrating that my colleagues and I need to downgrade by four versions of Storyline to create acceptable courses. And we miss out on the benefits of the 64-bit version. As you can imagine, a learner coming to a slide for the first time where some links are visited and some aren't is an abnormal interaction experience. I would find it confusing - "Have I clicked on that before? I can't have... Why is that link purple.... Did someone else take this course already?..." etc etc

Hi Terry, Jenny, and Jim,

Thanks for sharing your experiences with us! I'm sorry for the trouble with the hyperlink bug and the need to downgrade to work around it. Our engineers are currently working on a fix, and we'll update this discussion and notify you once it is available.

In the meantime, here's a peek into our process:

As a follow up on this issue, I was able to verify that if I delete the hyperlink (right-click on it and choose Remove Hyperlink), and then recreate it, that the subsequent links on following slides will not be marked as visited. However, with a 150-200 slide course with dozens of hyperlinks, this is quite frustrating and time consuming to edit each and every link. So now if I have to republish a previous course because the writers found a typo, I now have to recreate every link due to this bug.

Thank you for your follow-up, Bill! I'm sorry for the trouble and understand this would require a lot of work since your project has many hyperlinks. I see that you're working with Cleober in a support case, who has shared your findings with our Engineers. We'll continue the conversation in your support case.

Hi Terry!

Thanks for sharing the feedback! Sorry to hear this issue is still present for you!

I've opened a support case on your behalf, so our support engineers can work with you directly to troubleshoot the behavior. You're in excellent hands with them and they should be following up with you shortly!

We can continue the conversation through your case to help keep all information in one spot.

Hello all!

I wanted to share an update on what was released in Update 84! It does look like we posted about one hyperlink fix, but there were two that were addressed in Update 84. Along with the fix for a bug where hyperlink states didn't work as expected when navigating only with a keyboard or after duplicating a slide, we also released a fix for a bug where a hyperlink's visited state would propagate across duplicate slides.

Hyperlinks have to be recreated to take advantage of the fix. I apologize for any confusion we might have caused.
