Markers - State Change Not Viewing Properly

Aug 21, 2015

Hello all,

I'm having an issue with the state change of markers not properly showing in preview and live online.

I've attached a couple of screenshots to demonstrate. When I'm in edit mode, the state shows correctly - a marker should change to a yellow check mark once clicked. However, when I preview and view the live product online, the check mark is white and looks chopped off in the marker circle.

I couldn't find another post with a similar issue reported, but if there's one out there already, please let me know. This issue looks like a bug to me.

Thanks!

Hi Fawn! Thanks for sharing your details.

This is actually an issue that has been reported to our QA Team.

Here is the workaround:

  1. Select the Marker you want to edit and click on "Edit states".
  2. Select the hover/visited state and change the icon color to your desired color.
  3. Right click on the marker on the slide and choose save as picture and save the file on your desktop.
  4. Insert the image over your marker (still editing the hover/visited state).
  5. Click on Done Editing states.

I will add this thread for awareness and so that I can update when applicable.

Hi Leslie! has this issue been resolved? I'm having trouble with the color of the icon (I didn't change the icon) in the visited state. And this seems like a lot of work for the 20+ markers I need to edit (client changed their mind and wanted a visited state).

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I believe I was able to find a different workaround (still some work) but doable. I created a custom state called viewed changed the icon color and set a trigger to change the state to viewed when the user selects. Looks to be working in preview mode.

Hi Graham,

I'm sorry you're still running into an issue here. This discussion is a bit older, so I'd want to start from scratch by knowing a bit more about your set up. What version of Articulate Storyline are you using?

Can you share a copy of that course or even just one slide here for us to look at?

Leslie McKerchie

Hello Yael,

Sorry to hear you may be running into a similar issue.

This issue was originally reported for Storyline 2 and we do not have a similar bug tied to Storyline 360, so I'd certainly like to understand what you are seeing and a sample .story file as well.

If you cannot attach it here in the forums, you are welcome to share privately here

Articulate 360 issue.

I am having marker issue as well. One marker the purple one works as expected. The others do not. How do I fix this? Please help. See attached capture.

another Issue same slide: When using the PREV button to get back to this slide, after clicking on all icons (more than once), did not receive a NEXT button option.

Hi LaVon!  Thanks for sharing that capture.  I'll start with the second issue.  The trigger to disable the Next button is going to fire every time you revisit that slide.  If the states of those objects are already Visited, there isn't anything that's happening to change it back to Normal.  Try putting a condition on the trigger to disable the Next button,  e.g. IF state of any of Marker 1, 2, etc is Normal.  That way, the trigger to disable the Next button will fire only if any of the markers is Normal.

It's hard to tell what's happening with the markers, though.  Can you tell me a bit more about how you created the other markers and specifically what you're seeing when you test?

Hi Steve,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue.

The original issue posted in this thread was for Storyline 2, which is no longer supported. Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can confirm the behavior? Please include which version of Storyline you're using as well as a brief description on how we can replicate the behavior on our end using your project file.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out, it is actually my colleague who is having the issue. We are using SL360 a corporate account. Unfortunately, we cannot share the file as it is for a customer so NDA and all that we can pass on.

But the issue as I described earlier is that the visited state doesn't show correctly as the hover state covers the icon.

I have added a screen clip of the marker states, you will see the visited state is a black circle with a white icon I. This turns black in preview and published modes, I worked out if I change the hover icon from black to white it will then show correctly....

Looking forward to hear from you, my colleague has about 10 markers on one slide and more throughout the scene.

Hi Deanna!

Sorry to hear you've also run into this behavior!

Our development team is closely tracking a bug that causes:

  • Marker's Selected state doesn't change its icon color

If you're comfortable sharing your .story file, I'd be happy to take a closer look and confirm you are being affected by the same issue. Feel free to upload a copy here in the discussion or privately through a support case.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
