Objects on base layer showing
Jun 22, 2017
One of my layers continues to show the base layer even though I have 'Hide other slide layers' and 'Hide objects on base layer' checked off on the layer in question. I've even individually hidden each object from the base layer in the Timeline section. Still, the text from the base layer shows up.
The only objects on the layer in question are the objects I want the user to see. I made sure I didn't accidentally copy any objects over from the base layer.
Is there anything I can be missing? I have 100's of layers in this training and this is the first time I haven't been able to troubleshoot this myself.

Hey Nicole! That's really strange. Are you seeing the base layer text in the Editor or in Preview mode?
If you don't want to see the base layer while you're building another layer, click the eye icon for the base layer to unlock its visibility—i.e., to hide it.
Share your file here if you're still having trouble. I'm happy to help!
Hey Alyssa! I attached the slide that is causing the problem. It's occurring in the Preview mode. Not seeing it in the Editor. Let me know what you find - I'm sure it's just something dumb I'm forgetting.
It sounds like the same problem being described in this thread: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/unwanted-image-appearing-on-a-layer
Hi Nicole
see if this works how you want. You had triggers to change objects to 'visited' state on two of the layers. Visited state is a built in SL state and doesn't require a trigger - sometimes using a trigger will cause issues.
Hope this helps
What was the solution for this? I have objects with a visited state that are showing up on my layers now. Surprised this bug hasn't been fixed
Which version of SL are you using Nate? Can you share the slide so we can take a look.
This might be what's happening to me. I need to have a visited state, and I need to use a hotspot over the character to trigger it since more than one character is close together. I guess I will create custom "visited states" or just put a background on the layers.
Hi Magda,
Sounds like you are well on your way to sorting out the issue you are running into.
With your permission, I'd be happy to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening if needed. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.
I am having this problem as well. I thought to use a trigger to hide the character. You will see that on a couple of the sldies but even that doesn't really solve the problem. I will look at the example above but if you see something will you please help me figure it out.
Only two slides have triggers to hide the character:
On those two slide the character is hidden, and on the others, it isn't. Add the change state trigger to the other slides, and see if that works.
It probably doesn't matter in this case, but best practice is to make the Submit action the last action if there is a list of actions that are to be completed when submit is clicked.
Walt,
Thanks for the quick answer.
The "hide the character" was a solution I was pursuing but when I do that and they get the question wrong the character does not reappear. I might have to set another condition or trigger to have the character appear both times the question is asked.
I think I am just going to remove the character from the answer side and then there won't be any conflicts. I had funny expressions for the answer slides but it was mostly for me.
Thanks again.
