Problems with Focus Order

May 02, 2022

I'm testing the focus order for my project and came across some issues.

In the first slide in the attached file, when a user clicks on a "read more" button to open a layer then closes that layer, the focus order jumps to the end of the focus order list.

In the second slide, the group is set up as the button, but the blue rectangle that is part of the group is also read by the screen reader as a button. I guess because it's part of the group or because the rectangle has a visited state? Is there a way for screen readers to only read the group as a button instead of every object in the group?

Update: I was able to fix the first slide problem by selecting "prevent the user from clicking on the base layer" in Slide Layers Property and I was able to fix the second slide problem by using a custom visited state.

Although one thing that still perplexes me is that images are read as "graphic clickable {image description}", even if the image is not part of a clickable group...

Hello, I'm back. I'm now having a similar problem with slide 2 that I wasn't experiencing before. If a user closes a card layer the focus order goes wonky. It either skips the header of the next card or skips to the end of the focus order. I can't use the same solution as slide 1, because, for this interaction, users need to be able to click on the base slide. Any ideas?

Hi, Lauren.

I'm not able to reproduce what you're experiencing. I tested your Review 360 link, and I re-published the file for the web and tested it using Chrome. When I close the card using the keyboard, tabbing takes me to the name of the next card:

Can you do a screen recording of what you see on your end?

Hi, Lauren.

I apologize for the confusion! You mentioned slide two above, and I missed the title of slide three, describing it as the one with the issue.

I can see what you mean now, as I encountered the same behavior you described, when comparing both slides and the tab/focus order.

I went ahead and opened a support case on your behalf, so you should hear from our team soon via e-mail.
