Question: Linking Layers from one slide to another

Nov 10, 2023

Hello everyone,

Hoping I can get some assistance from the community.

I am working on a training on Storyline that has a slide with several layers. I am hoping to be able to link some of those layers to a few other slides in the presentation.

Does anyone know how/if that can be done?

Thanks in advance for the help. Much appreciated.

If you want the user to be able to go to another slide from the layer, add a button with a "jump to slide __" trigger. However, depending on how the overall navigation is set up, that could be confusing. So be sure the user will know where they are and how to get back to where they were.

Another option would be to open other slides in a lightbox. That lets them see the content, and when they close the lightbox, they're still at the layer.

you can link layers in Storyline to other slides in the presentation. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Select the layer you want to link.
  2. Click the Insert tab on the ribbon.
  3. Click Hyperlink.
  4. In the Link to section, select Slide.
  5. Select the slide you want to link to.
  6. Click OK.

Once you have linked the layer, you can click on it to jump to the linked slide.

Note: You cannot link directly to a layer in another slide. You must link to the entire slide and then use a trigger to show the specific layer when the user arrives on the slide.

Here is a workaround for linking directly to a layer in another slide:

  1. Create a duplicate of the slide that contains the layer you want to link to.
  2. On the duplicate slide, hide all layers except the one you want to link to.
  3. Link the layer on the original slide to the duplicate slide.

When the user clicks on the layer on the original slide, they will be taken to the duplicate slide, where the desired layer is already visible.
