Hi Jessica!

That sounds frustrating. Have you tried to set your screen resolution to 96 DPI? That usually solves the problem.

There are instructions here on how to set your screen resolution depending which Windows Operating System you're using:


If you scroll a little bit down on the link above you'll see the heading:  Here's how to switch to 96 DPI and it has the instructions on how to do it.

Hi, hopefully Hazels advice solves the issue.

If not, just to confirm, is the red line there after you finish recording and preview or publish your story? I only ask because there is always a red line when you record, but this line doesn't usually show up in the recording.

I'm using SL3 with standard settings and have never seen a red line appear.

Hi Jessica,

The screen shot you have attached with the red line, shows the read line appearing as you are recording the screen. I am wondering if, after you click the DONE button at the bottom and it imports the recording into storyline and you preview or publish it, if the red line is still there?

We don't have an update from Jessica's case, but we are happy to help! A few clarifying questions:

  • Does the red line appear when you finish recording and then preview or publish the project? Or, does it appear at another point?
  • Could you share a screenshot of your view?

Hi Stephanie!

I've looked at Sue's case, and it looks like the red outline appears when a laptop screen is set to 125%, and the browser is set to 100%. You'll need to set the laptop to 100% as well.

If this doesn't do the trick, we'll need our Support Engineers to step in. You can connect with our Support Engineers in a support case.
