Removing decorative items on quiz slides

Apr 04, 2023

I added a graded multiple choice question slide to a slide deck that comes with a little decoration on the top left, right before the title.  I'd like to remove it so it doesn't get picked up by a screen reader.  When I go to the SlideMaster view to remove it, the graded question slides don't show up.  The individual slide itself won't allow me to select the decoration to manage it's accessibility features.  And in the focus order window, when I highlight that item, the trash can icon that would let me remove it grays out.

How do I remove the decoration so the screen reader doesn't read it?

Hi Deona!

I’d be happy to help you troubleshoot this! I just had some clarifying questions to help me better understand what you’re seeing on your end.

  • Is this question slide a default Storyline quiz slide that you’ve added some custom design elements to? I put together something similar in a test course. I was able to select the decorative element and then open the accessibility features:

  • Have you tried importing the slide to a new Storyline course to see if the behavior carries over?

It would be helpful if we could see your .story file or at least this slide in particular. You can share it here in the discussion or privately through a support case. It'll help us understand the project's design, and we can troubleshoot it with you to make sure the course is meeting the accessibility needs of you and your learners!
