Scratchy screen cast audio

Whenever I screen cast my audio quality is awful. But when I record audio separately and synch it to the video it’s better —not great, but marginally acceptable. I also find that my audio quality when recorded in Camtasia is awesome. But, when I pull it into 360 it’s horrible.
I’ve had nothing but horrible audio issues since I started using 360 four years ago. I’ve had top of the line mics to moderately priced and cheapie headset mics. I’ve tried working with the audio controls and everything I can think of. I’m exhausted trying to figure out how to get good, consistent quality audio.
it’s so disheartening to have a wonderful course or instructional video and have crappy audio quality.

Hi Deb,
That's a tricky one. For troubleshooting purposes try recording a camtasia video using the built-in microphone on your laptop (I'm assuming you are using a laptop in this instance).
If the audio quality is equally crappy in Camtasia using this method you now know what the issue is. Storyline is using the wrong microphone. How to fix this is another story - I can't find infio on how to choose which recording device is used in Storyline).

I'm so sorry to hear you are having audio issues. I understand your frustration and wanted to pop in to share workarounds with you!
I wanted to pass along this article on Audio Quality Settings for Recorded Narration. Perhaps your course just needs a slight adjustment to the audio quality when publishing. We share recommended audio bitrates in this article.
Additionally, I recommend a repair of your Storyline 360 installation in order to double-check that the audio recording feature is working correctly within Storyline.
