Shape showing in my Timeline but not in my Preview

Apr 29, 2021

I have created a screen recording and add a shape to cover confidential information for 15s during the video.  The timing is correct in the Timeline and when I play here it works perfectly but when I preview the slide the shape does not display at all.  If I set to 'Show Always' or 'Show Until End' it appears on the preview, but I would only like the shape to show for 15s.  I tried publishing to see if this would help, but again, no shape.  What am I doing wrong?

Hi Donyale!

I'm happy to help! I've just tested this on my end using a screen recording of my desktop and a rectangle that covers a part of the desktop for 4 seconds. The shape appeared in both preview and publish.

Do you have the video placed at the top of the timeline? It should be brought forward for it to be displayed over the video. Secondly, are you using a trigger, or do you have the shape shown on the timeline?

If you have a .story file that you can share, that will give me a better idea of what you've created so far. You can either attach it to this public discussion or upload it privately in a support case.

Hi there,

Thank you for your help.

Yes I have the shape on the top of my timeline... no trigger.  When I select 'Show always' or 'Show until end'  I see it in the preview for the entire video... but I do not want it shown for the entire video just for a 15s time segment.  I have already shared with someone in a private chat for I will wait to hear back there.

Has there been a solution to this? I think it is due to the length of the video....we have to use storyline for the video due to needing the cc feature and the other tools are not good at all in this department.

For us our video is past 1000 seconds - In our testing the shape at the beginning shows and goes away as timed and set (wonderful!), but others later in the video - that we have to drag to the desired location (a time past the 1000 second mark) will not show - unless the "show always" is marked.  The shape is in front of the video. Would a layer be better? If so, what is the best trigger since there is no user interaction?

Hi, Rachel.

Thank you for reaching out!

Since we couldn't replicate the issue, and I don't see a case associated with Donyale's question, it's hard to tell what might be happening in your project.

If you're comfortable sharing your .story file either publicly here or privately through a support case, we're happy to take a look and see what's going on.
