This is the first time I've come across this: Storyline 2 is recording entire monitor screen, instead of only what's within recorder frame. This is on Windows 10.
Does anyone know what's causing this problem and how to fix it?
I'm thinking this could have to do with your DPI settings on your machine. Articulate Storyline requires Microsoft Windows to be configured with 96 DPI (dots per inch). If Windows is using a different DPI setting, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:
Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted (similar to what you're encountering with screen recording)
Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.
Hey there, John. Thanks for checking your DPI settings. I would next recommend doing a repair of Storyline 2 by following these instructions. If that doesn't enable your screen recording frame to respect the setting, our support team would be happy to take a closer look. You can connect with them here.
Great John, thanks for letting us know. If you or Adam have already reached out to our Support Engineers and opened a case, feel free to let us know the case number here. We'll be sure to follow along with it as well. :)
Hey John! I would have Adam directly reach out to our Support Engineers here with his information, he can even include the link to this discussion in the case description for reference. That way our Engineers will be able to work directly with him to get this resolved for you quickly.
5 years later, this problem is still not addressed. I just did a search for "storyline recording entire monitor screen not only what's within recorder frame", to find this thread, which looks to be unresolved still.
There should be a fix in the compiled code by now. What's the deal here? Now, I don't know what I'm going to get when I record my screen. Sometimes the indicated screen size does work. I don't know until I get to the end and try to import it into a project. Depending on what software I'm recording, I may or may NOT be able to re-record it.
I'm sorry you're having this issue with screen recording! It's possible you may be experiencing a reported bug in the software. Could you give some more details regarding your setup?
Are you using multiple monitors?
Is your DPI greater than 96?
Thanks for reaching out! I'm looking forward to your response!

Here's how to switch to 96 DPI for Windows 10:
You may be prompted to restart your computer for the change to take effect. Let me know if that does the trick! :)
Hi Ali,
I followed your instructions and the slider was already set all the way to the left.
Now what?
Thank you,
John
