Storyline is not recognzing the MP4 format
Dec 23, 2013
I'm trying to import an MP4 video into storyline and when I select it I get the following error.
"Disc2.mp4" does not appear to be a supported video format. Please select a video from one of the supported formats. (See attached screen shot)
I'm not sure why it won't recognize an MP4 file since this is the preferred file format. Is it a bug in Storyline? I made sure I was importing the MP4 from my local drive and not from my network or external drive. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Great news, Mahua. Thanks for chiming in to share and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
I am having trouble inserting my mp4 file (17900KB) into storyline 3. I used Rutwin's suggestion to convert mp4 to mp4 to make sure that there is no unsupported audio file. I am still receiving the error message that the file is not supported. Are there any other pieces of advice you might have?
Never mind. I mis-labelled which was the converted file (sigh). Rutwin for the win =) Thank you
Hi , I am facing the same issue now in Nov 2022 with Storyline360- and what is most weird is, that a colleague who bought the license 3 month after me, can easily insert the respective file with his license. And with his file I can work and save it under my account. Great work around, but I need to find the root cause of why this is not working with my recent new license!
Size of file is 580000KB, mp4 video file
I used video editor, to modify the mp4, I just added a title slide and accomplished the video as a new file. I could then smotthly insert it to storyline. Funny that my colleague was able to add my original mp4 file to his storyline with no issues at all... is there anyone who can explain this? we bought the license within 3 months time of difference.
have you tried to import the video in a new empty storyline file?
Hi, yes I did.
It was not possible , I received all the time the same error message. Mp4 is not a suitable format....

next test
HI, I have edited the video in the mean time in video editor and then finalized. After that it was possible to insert.
Do you have an idea why this worked not with my mp4 file beforehand? My colleague was successful without editing the video in the first place.
