Text to speech speed

Feb 03, 2018

Hello Guys, i think Articulate Storyline needs to improve the text to speech features, so that we are able to adjust the speed of the narrator. because all the narrators (voices), are really too fast, and in order to make it some how slower, we have to add punch of commas; which make the sound very annoying but understandable.

It will also be great , to make the narration speed in a slider (from 1 to 10)not drop-down list (slow, medium, fast).

Thanks

Hi, everyone!

I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 83, we've included important fixes and new features!

One of the new features we've included:

Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!

I don’t know that the attention is the issue, the issue is it is taking a ton of time inputting punctuation to slow the text to speech down. All of the choices for text to speech at time speak way to fast, users are needing to rewind to make sure they are hearing them properly. It would help to have some kind of slider that creators could slow the speech down were needed.

I hope that makes sense. Looking at the community discussions, it seems I’m not the only one having this issue.

If there is some way this could be addressed it would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I'm looking at this thread and some comments are 2 years ago and Articulate has yet to address the text to speech speed issue.  Please fix this issue.

Same here. This issue has been raised 3 years ago, and still no feature update from Articulate. I receive so many comments regarding the speed of narration, that it needs to be slowed down.

Janet Nesseth

When I put in the request, it was for Authors that create the WBT, to be able to slow down the text to speech. You can use periods, commas, and more spaces to help control the pace of the speech – but at times the voice still speaks to fast to be clearly understood.
Thank you!

Ideally for both. When I first started using text to speech I felt it went to fast and was using periods and commas ALOT. After I have made a few courses I am now being asked by the Learners for this control. I have a few that know the material and want to zoom through and I have a few that are not native speaking English and need it to be even slower.

HI

I would say that this is primarily for me as the creator, for me I prefer to use an alternative software to create my text to speech as it gives me the ability to slow down or speed up the voices and this helps when trying to tie in narration to activity on the screen. The alternative software also gives me the ability to change the tone of the voice from friendly to formal which is also a great option when creating elearnings that have narration and conversation sections.

Many thanks

I would prefer to have the ability to change the speed as the creator.  Most Users do not have the savvy to be able to adjust the speed themselves.  We have about 700 employees that are potential Users for these modules and would be more helpful to allow the creator to adjust the speed before you start working on allowing Users to.  Also it looks like 'occasionally' the voice will have an inflection after a question mark.  It would be wonderful if that worked all the time as well as other inflections for other punctuation.   Thanks for your help.

Rhonda Rolf

My top priority is that the learner needs the ability to change the speed.  I have native english speakers that want it faster, and english as a second language speakers that prefer a slower speed. I want to give them control over the speed to meet their learning needs.  I currenly provide the transcript in the notes section for them to read in case the audio is too fast/slow for them.

As a creator, however, i'd like that ability as well, i've spent many hours tweaking and "tricking" the text to speech to pronounce and have the cadence i need!

I would love to see Articulate improve their Text to Speech capabilities to keep up with advancements in voices and features. I don't use the built in Storyline TTS anymore, though it is convenient. The voices are not the best and I want something a bit better.  I use Microsoft Azure Neural voices now (which are excellent) or Amazon Neural Voices for some projects. There is a great tool called HeroVoice TTS (in the Microsoft Store) made by an e-learning guy that is a standalone Window App that allows you to access voices from Google, Microsoft and Amazon. You can adjust a lot of things with it. You do need to set up some developer accounts with the major players though, but it is not hard.

Janet Chafey

Rick, we use Articulate's TTS for development purposes, then swap out the narration at the end. Our team just received access to WellSaid Labs and are very excited to start using it. The tool provides more than 20 different voices so there's a lot of options, depending on your narration needs.
