Trouble with Selected State

Hi everyone! I hope you can help.

I am updating a project file (simple grammatical edits) and I noticed that for some of the objects I am not able to change the state when it is selected. The correct layer gets triggered when I select the object, but visually you can't tell that I've selected it. I recorded a short video to help clarify what I mean and I have attached a copy of the slide. This wasn't an issue before. I did recently update Storyline when prompted. I appreciate anybody that can take a look at this. Thank you!

  • Hi Cheryl,

I downloaded your file and found it worked correctly as it should when I try at my end. My SL version is the lasted prompted on 26th, Oct. So maybe you can save as another file and open it again and see if it's good then?

    Hi Joanne,

I really appreciate you taking the time to check. I tried saving it as another file and no luck. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled on my computer and the same thing occurs.

  • Hi, Cheryl,

FYI: I downloaded the file, and it worked for me, too.

As you noted in your video, using groups can cause issues. Even if a group worked before, it's always a risk.

It's better to "group" multiple objects by including them within the states of one object. In your case, it would be inserting a circle into a text box. The attached file shows how this looks and works.

    • Note: As with any objects, the Selected state won't show while the mouse is still over the object, because the Hover state takes precedence. But when the mouse is moved away, the clicked object shows the Selected state. (This is one reason to consider deleting Hover states.)

    Good luck!

  • Hi, Cheryl.

Thank you for sharing the video and the .story file!

We have a bug reported where the Selected state is not displaying/showing when the objects are grouped.

You can follow Judy's suggestion above as a workaround, which works in the latest update (Build 3.57.26407.0).

I've connected this discussion to the bug report, which we're actively looking into, and I'll be sure to come back to update you when I have some news.

  • Hello Cheryl!

So sorry for the trouble after updating Storyline 360! We just released the fix for the issue you reported where the Selected state was not displayed or shown when the objects were grouped with other objects.

You'll want to update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app to ensure you're using Storyline 360 (Build 3.57.26476.0).
