Where 64-bit application?

Mar 19, 2019

Don't know why there is still only a 32-bit application available. What is this August 2001? Here we are 18 years later and with 64-bit multi-core processors. I don't even think that this application utilizes all cores on even a Ryzen 7 (have not tried it - that is my gaming computer).

Where is the 64-bit app -- in "development Hell"???

Hi Everyone!

Great news! I'm happy to share that we just released Storyline 360 (version 3.82.31354.0), which includes a new 64-bit version of Storyline 360! Harness the processing power in modern computers with 64-bit Storyline 360. Large, media-rich courses benefit from increased stability and faster performance!

To use 64-bit Storyline 360, please update your Articulate 360 desktop app, then click the Install button next to the Storyline 360 app with the 64-bit and beta labels. The Install button will change to an Open button when the installation is complete.

This was highly requested, so we hope it serves you in your course creation! If you run into any snags, don't hesitate to contact our team in a support case.

Adding my comment to this thread... feeling like I just got burned with a new Ryzen 7 3700x with 32GB RAM and a high performance M.2 SSD.... and much more...  only to see Storyline appear as 32-bit process in the Task manager.

I'm currently struggling working with a project that has 24 scenes of screen recordings and the application is extremely slow. Publishing takes eons to complete and only utilizes 7% of my CPU at best.

Storyline is becoming too armature as a tool for me. Unless 64-bit ... or at least work on a 64-bit version begins I will be forced to look at alternative solutions to Storyline. Unfortunately I don't have time to troubleshoot performance issues with Articulates support team - this isn't my problem to help you fix!

Please, include a 64-bit version. I think the future of this product will rely on the performance benchmarks you need to achieve for a product in 2021 and beyond! Especially as the eLearning industry is currently experiencing explosive growth.

Truly frustrated.

Good luck.

Yeah, Tom, I totally agree. The only positive thing I heard was from support person a while back, that said that the publishing process is actually 64 bit. But still, as you stated, it only utilized 7 % of your CPU ... imagine if the next version of Windows dropped support for 32 bit apps ... it would be a sh..show.

I had hoped with a newer more powerful computer I would be spending much less time waiting for slide/scene/story previews ... and less lag when dragging/moving assets within slides and layers. Even attempting to edit States is painful as they load.... I can make changes to assets faster than Storyline can respond to my clicks.   I'm just always waiting for Storyline. This issue isn't only with this particular system. I have similar experiences on my corporate computer at the office, which too is a very decent system. The performance of Storyline on an mobile laptop with an i3 CPU and 3.5 GB of available memory is no worse off than a Ryzen 7 and 32 GB of available memory and a dedicated (and powerful) GPU.

Skimming through several posts about 64-bit version requests... It blows my mind to think this is not a "priority" to build a 64-bit option or even to just switch entirely to 64-bit.  The bottleneck in performance isn't the computers (to a degree), it's the application.

I understand releasing a 64-bit version isn't as easy as selecting 'save as 64-bit' in the development environment... many factors come into play from development languages used to the original architecture of the application. Maybe time to consider rebuilding or starting over with something new that utilizes 64-bit architecture and all modern hardware to its fullest potential (i.e. use GPU's to assist with rendering/conversion). Unless there's some secret that Storyline is going web-based like Rise and their other offerings... could it be possible?

@Nejc Žorga Dulmin, from what I can see, publishing doesn't invoke any additional 64-bit processes. Microsoft's Sigcheck.exe application indicates all 14 .exe files in my Articulate folder are 32-bit AND... Microsoft announced Windows 11 not long ago... where the system requirement is:  1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC) - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11

So maybe we ARE getting a 64-bit version? But then again, Windows 11 will support 32-bit apps still.

Hi Tom

I posted virtually the same as you have done here many moons ago under my company login name, only to be told it is not on the road map.

I am very upset and frustrated with Articulate. My company has more than 60,000 employees and we are being requested to produce more and more eLearning thanks to Covid.

This 64 bit issue has now reached our senior management and we are looking into transferring to other products, probably early 2022.

I hope you read this Articulate, burying your heads in the sand on this issue will be your down fall. Once we migrate we will not be coming back.

It would be nice if they would give us an update, here's hoping!

Updating a 32 bit app to a 64 bit app is a huge undertaking. Both technically and time/money wise for Articulate. With that understood, the Storyline app in 32 bit version on 64 bit systems is sluggish to use (especially UI response), prone to repeated crashes and can only address 2 Gb on memory. Its state is so bad stability wise that we have stopped using it! We now use Rise and only import a few animations from Storyline. Articulate, if you dont make the investment in a modern 64 bit app, you will have people looking for alternatives just for these "technical" reasons.
