Accessibility Issue: All-Caps Button Text

I am currently developing an accessibility-focused course, so it MUST meet accessibility standards. One issue I’ve identified is the use of all caps on buttons, which is not accessible. I can change this for the "Start Course" button; however, in other components, such as button stacks, the text appears locked in all caps.

Is there a way to modify this so the button text uses standard capitalization?

  • I posted this on your other comment about the button color too, but just in case! I agree with you that all caps can be difficult to read and are not a best practice and are, in general, bad for accessibility, WCAG doesn't have any specific guidance about them. As long as they aren't littered all over your course I think you'll be ok!: https://www.boia.org/blog/all-caps-headings-are-they-bad-for-accessibility

Regrettably this item is returned consistently as a concern in accessibility audits within my organization and I am sure others'. As much as we would like to hope so, "we think you'll be ok" is not compliance, and as the shared resource notes "...remember, accessibility isn’t just about compliance with WCAG. The goal of inclusive design is to create products that work better for everyone, and all-caps headings can present issues for some users"

That said, I would still be interested to hear from Articulate options to address this known concern.
