Add Transparency to Captions

In Youtube and Wistia and most online video things I see and use, the captions are by default slightly transparent. So the video behind shows through the caption box "slightly" all the time.

Please add this capability to SL360. A tiny 15% transparency by default would be fine.

Even better would be an option to set the transparency in the PLAYER > COLORS AND EFFECT... right under the Captions Font... a setting for Captions Transparency ___%. Probably limit to 25% or so max.

But anything would be great here...

I've submitted a feature request as well.

If anyone knows a workaround that doesn't include manually creating the caption boxes...

  • Thanks, Matthew, that would be very helpful

We are utilizing some 3rd party video in a course that went out this week and there are some nasty "overlays" that the captions are causing where there is some text across the bottom in several instances, and we can't change the video.

Yes. I'm seeing that people started requesting this 2 years ago. This is also a feature of LinkedIn Learning captions. I don't know why it's so difficult to add this enhancement. Customizable would be great.

    Thanks.

  • Hello Everyone!

I'm happy to share that we have released Storyline 360 version 86 (Build 3.86.32028.0).

Included in this release is a new feature where you can customize the foreground and background colors of closed captions to complement your course design and maintain contrast accessibility.

All you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let us know if you have any questions by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.

    Have a great day!
