An annoying bug when typing text in paragraphs
I've been encountering a rather annoying bug when writing paragraph text.
Here's the steps I am doing at the moment:
- Type a word.
- Hit space.
- Type the next word.
- Delete the word, but not the space before it.
Rise has been automatically removing the space before the deleted word for me, triggering me to mistype merged words. You can see what's happening in the video I've attached.
I assume the code is constantly stripping trailing spaces.
It doesn't seem to happen all the time though, just enough to make me re-type often.

Yup. I'm the original poster and it still happens EVERY SINGLE DAY I use Rise 360. It's very frustrating and It's definitely not an extension issue.
Rise is removing trailing spaces in text far too often. I can understand wanting to do that after someone moves to a different block, but not while actively typing in the block.

Do any other users have any tips that work for avoiding this bug? After working in Rise for 6 months at a new position, I'm having this backspace issue occur regularly and so are members of my team. We're avoiding Rise where we can because typing is such an immensely frustrating experience, but unfortunately some of our longer courses in our LMS must use it. How is this 4-year-old bug still a problem?!?

It's still a problem because Articulate, judging from their responses to many questions/complaints I've seen, always blame the user and something they're doing wrong or have on their PC that's causing it. They never take responsibility and accept there's something wrong with the software. Their response to OP is a perfect example.

Hi Karl,
While I am not the original commenter, I can attest to the fact that it's unlikely to be a browser plugin/extension.
My employer does not allow any extensions to be installed/used on my browser and I still experience this issue in Rise (and nowhere else, regardless of whether it's a text editor through the same browser or offline).
If I may ask - what browser do you use when working in Rise?- KarlMullerCommunity Member
Hi Benjamin,
I use Chrome for Windows.
Always keep it up to date.

I'm in Chrome. It's the latest version - it's actually been happening for months, but I finally posted about it today, instead of throwing my laptop across the room in frustration.
I get that blaming an add-on is some pretty good troubleshooting, but the only add-ons I use are business critical, and not likely to hijack my cursor - because they're business critical and vetted by our IT Team. Additionally, this is the only time this ever happens. Not on any other site. Literally only here. The common denominator is definitely Articulate not any extensions.
So I recorded a video in an incognito window - no extensions enabled. Same thing. It's the text editor.
Even if it was extensions (Again, it's not) shouldn't it work with common extensions that your users have to use to get the rest of their work done?

I too am experieincing this issue and have turned to forums for a solution. I'm nearing an Office Space level of frustration with this matter as it really slows me down. I'm also using Chrome, have limited, IT security approved plug ins, and am current on all updates.

I know this thread is 2 years old but this happens to me too. I'll be typing just fine and then for no reason it starts deleting spaces when I haven't deleted the space, only the letter. It's incredibly frustrating and Articulate should know it's still going on. I don't have any plug-ins etc that would cause it but it's irrelevant anyway because I'll be typing one minute and it's fine and the next minute it starts, and I've changed nothing in between.

Hi Josh,
I cannot replicate what you are experiencing.
On a typical day I spend an average 6 - 7 hours working in Rise and have never encountered this issue.
Unfortunately I have no suggestions about what's causing this for you.

I wonder if you have a browser plugin or feature that is stripping out leading spaces.
- LoupetronCommunity Member
I doubt that. I work for a security company. The only allowed extension is 1Password.
Weirdly. it's not a constant issue. So I can't guess at the origin.

I don't use Rise a lot, I probably spend over 90% of my time in Storyline or something else.
When I have used it I have not seen a lot of merged words, but I have seen merged words so maybe Rise, although I would defer to someone who uses it as their main authoring tool.
