I have found a solution that works to solve this. It's extremely faffy for the developer but the Dragon user experience is then much better. It works.
Basically, for every interactive object, you create a rectangle with no fill and no border, so it's invisible. That needs to be on top of the respective interactive item and positioned over the left bottom corner, so that it effectively extends the target area. Whatever triggers would apply to the original item, need to also be applied to the invisible rectangle. The invisible rectangle needs to be deleted from the focus order, so that screen reader users don't get it announced.
Obviously, this is not an ideal solution. A proper fix from Articulate would be much better.
