'Animated text can't be hidden? (Storyline 3)
Hi there,
Running Storyline 3 update 6.
I'm not able to hide bodies of text that I want animated. My process is simply this:
- Insert shape with text or a text box
- Animate and choose 'By Paragraph'
- Select initial state of text box/shape 'Hidden'
- Trigger change of state to 'Normal' when user clicks something.
Simple right? :) Except this only hides the shape, and the text starts flying onto the screen without a shape behind it as soon as the slide previews. The trigger activates the shape only.
However, when I select the animation option 'As one object', it works as intended, and my text is hidden, although the large body of text flies in as one once triggered. This is not what I want my users to see, and this will be largely off-putting to many.
Is this a bug? Why would text start appearing 'by paragraph only' and not 'as one object' when set up like this? Feel free to quickly try this out, alternatively I can provide a SCORM package to show. Thanks.

Hi Chris,
This is a bug that our team is looking into!
In the meantime, a few other workarounds for you to play with:
- If you animate by an object, animation works as expected
- Add the text box elements to a layer, so that you trigger the layer instead of the hidden state
- Use separate text boxes per paragraph, and use When Animation of previous text box Completes to trigger each one
Hope that helps, and we'll keep you posted on this issue here!

Thanks Ashley,
Is there any kind of turnaround expected for this fix? I've noticed you've also replied to complaints about this bug 4 years ago (https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/can-t-hide-text-box-if-animated-storyline-2) and yet it still persists - was it not looked into or fixed back then by the dev team? This bug has existed since Storyline 1!
Please ask your dev team to actually do something about this, it's an embarrassment to the brand that the bug has existed since Storyline 1 :(
Hi Chris,
I do not have an estimated timeframe to share.
I wanted to share some information on how we define bugs and how we tackle them when they occur.

Following this. I'd also be interested in a fix. Thank you!
