Are there e-learning challenges for beginners?
Hi! I'm a newcomer. I've been told that attempting some of the elearning challenges will help me to build my skills (I've already watched numerous videos and created a VERY basic elearning project). But when I've looked into some of the posted challenges, even the ones that post the story file, I'm lost. I have so many questions as to how things were done or why a certain tool was used. For example, I just opened a challenge from several months ago that had a pair of rolling dice that could be used for a game or any number of learning experiences. But when I opened the story file, I saw that there were six different states for each die (makes sense since each has six sides). But wouldn't the image itself have to be one that has those states available (similar to when we choose a character and the character has different states to choose from)? If not, where would the "states" come from? I couldn't move on from that point because I couldn't determine where the initial object (the dice) came from, so I couldn't even start to replicate the challenge.
I think I need really basic "challenges" for beginners. Is something like this available?

Hi, Vickie,
If you have a license for Articulate 360, you can access all their on-demand-training videos. That includes quite a few for beginners:
I also recommend the User Guides.
https://community.articulate.com/articles/tutorials-and-documentation
This link goes to all of the guides. Bookmark the individual guides you're most interested in. They provide an excellent overview of how things work.
There's even a User Guide for Storyline 3 if that's what you're using.
Since you mentioned states, here's the User Guide page for that topic:
Articulate characters come with lots of different expressions and poses -- all potential "states." For most objects, the developer has to locate whatever they want to include in the states. For example, to create the dice, the developer would have started out with an image of each side of the die.
As you start learning about different steps, I suggest you challenge yourself to use what you're learning. You might start with trying to re-create some of the interactions you've seen.
Best wishes!

Thank you! I was more specifically referring to beginner "challenges"
rather than tutorials. I appreciate your help, though.Prof. Melograno

Hey Vickie! The weekly challenges on E-Learning Heroes is a place for all skill levels—beginners to advanced—to grow their e-learning skills. There are a lot of benefits to participating. I also love that some people share their files so anyone can take a deeper look, but I also know it can feel a bit overwhelming when you're starting out. You could always try asking the person who created that example the questions you have. A lot of times they will respond and share their thinking behind what they created.
You also mentioned being new, so I also wanted to share this course I created to help others get started: Storyline 360: Getting Started With E-Learning. I hope that helps!

Thank you! That's really nice of you. I find that when I look into the SL
project for something someone created, I feel lost. I can't untangle it.
It's probably because I have so little experience in SL.I appreciate your help.
