Audio/Animation Out of Sync When Published (Storyline 360)

I haven't found a discussion on this yet so I'm posting. Need a solution incredibly fast.

I've been using Articulate Storyline 360 for years and have never had this problem until the last couple days. I am publishing our latest compliance training and testing on our LMS when I discovered the timing for some of the slides were off. Assuming I'd forgotten to fix something, I went back to the Storyline file. However, there isn't anything to fix.

The slides work when I click the Play button on the Timeline. The slides work when I use the Preview option. The slides work when I test them on Articulate Review. However, when I publish to HTML5 using the Modern Browser, some of the slides become out of sync. When I open on my desktop or run from the LMS, the effected slides, the audio and animations are running at different speeds. The the beginning of a 60 second slide, they are noticeably off (animation is lagging behind) and by the end of the slide, the audio ends 8-10 seconds ahead of the animation.

This "bug" is in every one of my new lessons that have been announced to the entire company to launch Sunday night.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a workaround? (I'm going to try to make the audio and slide to start at the exact same time - currently the audio starts .5-1.0 seconds after the start of the slide.)

Appreciate anyone's insights into this!!

  • Sorry about that, Sherry. I appreciate you sharing the file. I've opened a support case on your behalf and attached the file. You can remove your file from this conversation if needed.

  • This is happening to me with many of my SCORM files, and is the most-mentioned critical comment in course surveys on our LMS. I have tested in SCORM Cloud, Review360, and on our LMS. It happens randomly and frequently. Is there any solution?

      Hi Jenna,

Sorry to hear that you ran into a similar issue. I'll be glad to help!

We aren't seeing this issue being reported by majority of our users, so there's a chance that the issue is file specific. With that being said, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at the behavior? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

      Hi Norman,

We haven't identified a single cause for the behavior described in this thread. Possible causes for the audio delay could range from issues encountered during publishing to problems with the hosting environment. It's best to have us check your project file so we can properly test the behavior you're experiencing, and we'll be sure to delete it when we're done.

Please open a case here to get in touch with our support team privately.

  • I am also running into this issue, I have produced this in multiple storyline courses. I have reached out to the engineers and provide a lot of data. We really need this addressed as I have a large amount of users getting this bug. Has anyone found a work around yet? We eLearning dev's need an update asap!

Hi Victor, I had a case open and traded files with support to no avail. I have discovered I cannot trust using Storyline's timeline to sync audio and visual elements. What I have been doing is opening the audio in the tool I used to edit it (either Audacity or Descript, both free!), and noting the exact timestamp when I want an animation/trigger/object to appear in the audio tool. I add cue points to the Storyline timeline that are aligned with my time stamps from my audio editing tool, then use the cue points. E-learning that I have developed with this workaround has not caused any issues I know of, and I stopped receiving customer feedback about the issue once I started using the workaround. Hope that helps!

When I review my slide within Storyline, the audio and animations are synched. When I publish to Review, they are randomly off by a few seconds. I'm seeing the onscreen animation start, with the audio a few seconds behind. I've been building this course for several months and everything worked fine until a few days ago. Now the audio is no longer synched withe the animation.

I stumbled upon a fix for my course. I deleted a second of silence from the beginning of my audio clip. Saved, republished. Everything (audio + onscreen animation) is synched now. No explanation, but it worked.
