background music in Storyline
Hi everybody,
Is there any way to insert background music like in Presenter in Storyline?
Thank you
Hi everyone!
I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 74, we've included important fixes and new features.
One of the new features we've included is:
- Create immersive experiences with continuous background audio that sets the tone and keeps learners engaged.
Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let me know if you have questions!

Hi Marie,
If you're not as comfortable with code, you may want to try the method mentioned by David Anderson in this thread, and you can join in with those who have requested background music as a new feature.

I want to have slide narration with music/sound effects (different file) in the background. The music does not have to continue beyond one slide. I could do that in presenter using playlist for the background music. Is this doable in Storyline?
Hi Christi and welcome to Heroes!
There is not a playlist feature within Storyline, but if you're adding additional audio files to a slide and you'd like them in the background of your narration you can edit the individual audio files and change the volume level:

Hi Christi - you can add more than one audio track to a slide and as Ashley indicated in her post, you can control the volume of each track independently which allows you to lower the volume of the music track. - Sjoerdde-VriesCommunity Member
You can at least a display the sound on a slide, so when you create layers, the sound can still be played. This can be used for nice effects as well.

Thank you! I have been trying to solve this mystery for months! This worked perfectly on a course I was constructing for one of my wife's classes! Thank you Christine and Kenny! You guys are the best!

Hey all,
So I want my background music to play from slides 1.9 to 1.11. Is there anyway that you're aware of to set the parameters for when the slide music plays in the background?
Could I separate it out into its own scene and then set the scene as the background music? I suppose I could set this content to auto-advance and manually select the time of the music clips, however I wonder if the transition from slide to slide would feel choppy and weird.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Looking for the same. This is a basic function and should be added by developers in future releases.
Pretty please.
Thank you.

Sidenote - I did what I mentioned and set the slides to auto-advance, and then just edited the background music to match the VO length, added fade outs / ins, and it's "okay". however, it would be better if the music didn't stop between slides. Thanks,
Sam

Hey Sam! Depending on how you want to build your presentation, you can build it with layers rather than slides. If you do this, you can set your layer properties so they do not pause the base layer when they play. This will allow music on the base layer to continue to play as your users advance through the layers.
Hi Joel and welcome to Heroes!
If you'd like to see this feature in new editions feel free to share your thoughts here in the form of a feature request.
Sam.,
Thanks for sharing the method you came up with to set this up!
