Black screen at start when uploading Storyline content as video in Rise – tried everything
Hi,
I’m experiencing an issue when uploading my Storyline content as a video in Rise. No matter what I do, the video starts with a black screen instead of showing the intended start image before the learner presses play.
Here’s what I’ve already tried:
- Set a Cover Photo in the Storyline Player
- Created a completely static first slide with:
- A background image
- No animations
- No transitions
- No triggers
- Moved all animated content to the second slide
- Ensured there are no fade-ins or delayed objects
- Verified that the first slide renders correctly in Storyline preview
Despite this, when I upload the exported video to Rise (as a video block), the video displays a black screen with play-symbol.
I feel like I’ve exhausted the usual troubleshooting steps, so I’d really appreciate any insights.
Thank you!

IN mobile the black screen is expected behavior.
ON a desktop a slide with no media at all should load without the black screen.

Hi, on mobile the file name appears, but on desktop it’s just a black screen.
Hi VeronicaSder638,
Thanks for sharing your experience when uploading Storyline content to Rise 360.
I see that you've already opened a support case being handled by my teammate, John Carlo. He should be following up with you shortly to provide more insight into this behavior.
We can continue the conversation there!

Did you manage to resolve this issue? I am having exactly the same problem. I have added the Cover Page photo in the player in SL but am still seeing the black box with the play button when I upload the video to Rise. Any help gratefully received. Thanks
