Can't publish to Word in Articulate Storyline 3

Hi.  I'm trying to publish a course in Word.  It goes through the process but then no document is produced in the end.  It seems to happen too quickly....almost instantaneously but then no word document is created

  • Hi, Jeffrey. I'm sorry you're facing that problem!

What version of Word are you using? Microsoft Word 2010-2019 (32-bit or 64-bit) and Microsoft Office 365 (desktop apps only) are compatible with Storyline 3.

Also, can I confirm that you're working on a local hard drive and that the file name and path are under the 260-character limit imposed by Microsoft Windows?

If everything checks out with those angles, would you mind sharing your .story file for testing? You can send it to me privately by using this upload link. I'll have a closer look, and delete the file after troubleshooting!

    Hi,

I am having a problem publishing a Storyline file to Word. I'm on Windows 10 a current version of Word. The file is saved to my local desktop and has a short file name. Whenever I go through the process to publish to Word, I get the box to report a problem.

The course contains audio and two videos but nothing outstanding.

I've tried it on two different Windows 10 desktops and encounter the same problem on both.

  • Hi there, Joan. Sorry you're also at this obstacle!

I see you and Lianne from our Support team are already knee-deep in troubleshooting to get to the root of this crash.

We appreciate you working closely with us, and do get in touch if you have any questions about her latest suggestions!

    Good Afternoon,

I ran into the same issue as Joan.  Are there troubleshooting steps that I can try?  I was able to upload to a Word file with a different project however I am running into issues with a particular file.  Please advise, thank you.

  • Hello Natalie,

The issue that you are encountering with your project file appears to be file specific since you were able to successfully publish other Storyline projects to Word. Please reach out to our support team here so we can take a look at your project file and figure out what's happening.

Same issue here - Storyline 3, 64 bit Windows 10 Enterprise - when I publish, it says it is published but there is not file. I have Show Layers and Slide Notes unchecked, and I am publishing to a local drive with a short file name.

  • Hi Karen!

I understand how frustrating it can be to not have your course publish as expected.

    I have a few suggestions:

If you are still having trouble, we'd be happy to take a look at your PowerPoint file and troubleshoot with you in this thread or privately in a support case. Whatever you are most comfortable with.

    I hope this helps!

Good morning, our IT department was able to resolve this issue. The problem is that you must have macros enabled in Word. In our organization macros are disabled for security reasons by default. For reference though, we have Word 2010, and are using Storyline 3.

It is a little weird that SL still pops up the dialog box that says the file is published even though it is not, that's what was confusing.
