Challenge Option in Rise

We have compliance training for our organization which was developed in Storyline and is currently being moved over into Rise.

Since many people take this training annually and know the content, in SL we included a Challenge option so that the final quiz is replicated in a hidden format. If the end user passes this quiz is under 2 tries, they automatically advance to the end of the course and are marked complete in the system. If not, they must take the whole course and do a final quiz (for which they also have limited attempts to pass). If they pass this final quiz, they are then marked complete in the system. So, you have two possible methods of completion.

However, despite spending hours on this, I cannot figure out how to have two quizzes in Rise that can jump you to the end and mark you complete in the system if you successfully pass either one (but not both).

Does anyone know how we can replicate this in Rise?

  • SarahSampara-24 I'm pretty sure that Rise isn't there yet with this level of functionality. I don't think we can set-up pre-assessments to determine if a user should re-do content. I think in order to do this in Rise, you would have to develop as two separate content pieces and configure the functionality in your LMS (if possible). The first content piece would be just the quiz. If the user passes this, all good, the course is passed. If not, they are then enrolled into the second piece of content which is the modules + quiz. Most LMS can handle this kind of functionality:

    • Course: Widgets 101
      • Content piece 1: Pre-assessment (mandatory)
        • Pass - roll up "Pass" to Widgets 101
        • Fail - Enrol in Course + Post-assessment
      • Content piece 2: Course + Post-assessment (if fail pre-assessment)

It will be a change in experience for your users as it is not quite as seamless. If the user fails the pre-assessment, they must then exit that content and then launch the next piece from the LMS.

  • I think's SamHill's suggestion is the best way to go.

A few years ago, I presented a way to include a pretest in Rise. However, a big loophole was discovered (see TIP: Build a Rise Course with a Pretest | Articulate - Community for details), which makes it somewhat risky if you need to verify compliance.

As Sam said, separating the pretest from the course-with-final-quiz in the LMS might seem a bit disconcerting to the users. But, from a compliance standpoint, that is the way to go—at least, it will be unless they ever add built-in pre-test functionality to Rise.

Glad to see the community has been helping you!

I just wanted to pop in and share that we are tracking a feature request to enhance the capabilities of Pretests in Rise 360. I've included your voice in the report! We'll be sure to notify you if this feature makes it to our product roadmap.

Have a great start to your week!

  • Thanks Steven! I appreciate you tracking the request and adding my voice to the mix.

    Have a lovely day!
