Chapter in a module appears to be corrupted. Options?
Hi All, while working on a page/chapter in Rise, the content disappeared leaving just the following:
The "Unknown type" references were three items in a bar chart I was adapting when all of the other blocks and content disappeared. I've cleared cache. Logged out and back in, and it still shows this.
I'm resigned to believing I'll need to re-build it but thought I'd reach out to the Community.
There is a snapshot from earlier in the day but I had addressed a number of things in various other chapters, all of which would be lost if I understand correctly?
Edit: Just circling back to this a days later to thank LucianaPiazza and EricSantos who recovered the lost content. Thank you.

Does duplicating the course help?

Thanks for the thought, Chris. I've just tested, and unfortunately the issue is duplicated.

That's annoying. How about duplicating and changing the graph type? Or ensuring that there are no hidden formatting fields, if your numbers were pasted from another program.

I am able to replicate the issue if anyone wants to try. In a lesson that you can lose all content of:
- Create a bar chart. You don't need to change anything from the default graph.
- Edit the content of the graph.
- In the Values label field ("Add a values label here..."), type a percentage sign. No need to hit enter. Just type that in and all will disappear.

Dave_Hall: How frustrating!
Did you ever publish the course to Review? If so, the Snapshots functions would have a copy of the course as it was at that time.
FYI: You can also create a Snapshot of the current version at any time.
In any case, I suggest you submit a case to the support. They may not be able to get your content back, but they need to know about the issue.

Thanks JudyNollet . We had a snapshot from earlier that day, but there were changes made throughout multiple lessons in-between then and the time the content was corrupted. So, possibly safer to rebuild if the content can't be recovered, rather than revert all changes.
Hi Dave_Hall,
Thanks for taking the time to document the steps to reproduce this, that’s incredibly helpful. And thanks as well to Chris-Hurst and JudyNollet for chiming in with ideas and suggestions here.
This behavior is related to the same issue we’ve been investigating, where editing chart blocks could cause lesson content to disappear. Our team is actively reviewing reports of content being affected, including what options may be available for restoring content in certain cases. If you’d like us to review your course or see whether restoration is possible, please let us know.
The good news is that this issue has already been addressed, and the fix is in place, so it shouldn’t happen again going forward.
Thanks again to everyone for collaborating here and for your patience as we worked through this.

Thanks Eric - I responded to an email from Luciana and sent a copy of the course through to support.
Regards,
Dave
