Characters image & Custom blocks

Hi !

I've been using the custom blocks in my courses, and I really like it. Interactivity would be a huge plus, but from what I gather, it will become available in the future.

One thing that I don't understand is why the character bank from Storyline and the "Scenario" block is not available for custom blocks.

I love using the "Scenario" block as a mini powerpoint with a character who is explaining points from the course as if they were the teacher. But the thing is that the "Scenario" block has quite a lot of bugs (You have to quit and return to the block to see the updates), and you have a limited amount of words per slide wich can be quite tricky sometimes.

It would be great to be able to insert characters from the character bank so that we could make long texts of explaination while keeping the character as an e-teacher.

I don't know if it's planned but it's a feature that I'd like to see for the custom blocks !

Thank you !

  • SophiePortal-f6: Here's a workaround for inserting characters into Custom blocks:

    • Insert the desired character into Storyline. (Or into PowerPoint, if you have Studio 360 installed.)
    • Right-click the character, and export it as a PNG.
FYI: Save as Picture results in a smaller file than Export Original Pose. The size of the exported image also depends on how the character is sized in Storyline when the pose is exported. I suggest you test a few sizes to determine what fits your needs.

    • Insert the PNG into your custom block. Position it, resize it, and/or crop it as desired.

Note: As per the Terms of Service, you may only use Articulate characters in content published from Articulate software (e.g., in Rise and Storyline projects). This restriction also applies to other assets from the Content Library.

  • Hi SophiePortal-f6!

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! We’re really glad to hear you’re enjoying custom blocks!

You’re right that interactivity and expanded character support are both areas we’re actively exploring. We love how you’re using the Scenario block to introduce a teaching character, and we understand the frustrations around bugs and text limits.

We’ve shared your feedback with our product team so they know how valuable this kind of feature would be for you and others.

If the bugs you’re seeing with the Scenario block keep popping up, our support team would be happy to take a closer look. You can connect with them in a support case.
