closed caption display change?

My Rise project required me to replace a video. The original video and several others were added months ago and the closed captioning displays in the center of the video when enabled. Now, however, for the newly added video, it displays half on the player and half off to the left. In either orientation, the player controls continue to overlap the closed captioning. Can I correct either of these issues? should I be do something differently when adding the closed captions? Thanks!

  • Hi SSCCommunicatio

    Sorry to hear that closed captions in Rise are not playing back as expected. Allow me to address each issue separately.

    Player controls overlapping captions:

    I can confirm that we have this behavior logged as a bug in Rise 360. This bug causes:

    • When pausing a video or moving your cursor over it, the playback controls may overlap with the closed captions.

    I've linked this discussion to the bug report so we can notify you as soon as a fix is ready. I'm sorry if this has been slowing you down!

    Off-center captions:

    This shouldn't be happening, and I'm unable to replicate the same behavior when testing on my end.

    Rise doesn't support an option to manually reposition closed captions. Captions are automatically fixed to the bottom-center of videos during playback. It's possible that this issue is caused by the formatting of the .VTT file itself. WebVTT files support "positioning", and if present, Rise will respect it. If you open the caption file, do you see any parameters such as:

    • align:start
    • position:0%
    • line:...
    • 00:00:01.000 --> 00:00:04.000 align:start position:0%

    To isolate the issue, try uploading the same .VTT file to a different video in Rise. Or upload a .VTT file that's correctly positioned, to the new video. If the behavior follows the .VTT file, it's likely being caused by the file itself.

    Let me know how it goes!
