Closed Caption icon not clickable on Lightbox layer

I have closed captioning on a slide with a lightbox layer.

There does not appear to be a way to click the icon to show it when a lightbox layer is open. Is this really true?

Also, why can't I open the notes in lightbox mode????

  • Hi Katelin!

Great question! In this case, you'll want to use the Player.DisplayCaptions variable to determine when the captions will appear on the slide that's lightboxed.

I've created a quick tutorial to explain how to use this variable! Here's the link.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

      Hi Lauren

Could you post your link again? Is not there anymore.

I am having the same issue with a slide that I have set to lightbox from the player, but the captions aren't working on it when preview it.

      Thanks,

      Deanna

  • Hello Deanna!

It looks like the video link expired! Sorry about that. I'll post a screenshot of the caption you'll need to display the captions automatically.

Give that a try, and let me know if you have any questions!

I am having the same issue. Is there a way to make the CC icon clickable, or create another button for this feature, so that captions are an option for the user and not automatically displaying?

Agree with you - I do NOT want to turn on the closed captioning automatically for a lightboxed slide video - but need to have the option available if a learner does want to turn it on. Does anyone know if Articulate has fixed this issue?

  • Hello Erin,

The solution that Lauren shared above is specific to using a lightbox slide in Storyline so that the closed captions will display because you will not be able to click the button as you can on regular slides.

Are you working with a light boxed slide as well or could you explain what you are experiencing?

  • Hi, Kimberly.

We have a possible bug logged where the Closed Caption icon is not clickable on a Lightbox.

As a workaround, you can use the built-in Player.DisplayCaptions variable, as Lauren explained above, or you can create a custom closed caption button on the slide that toggles that variable between True/False.

We'll return to this discussion as soon as we have news to share!

      Hi KMaria:

I am trying to solve this same issue. Have any updates been made?

Could you explain further how to create a custom Closed Captioning button for the lightbox slide?

      With Thanks,

      Taylor
