Copying States from one picture to another

Hi there!

This is my first post, and I am very new to Storyline, but it looks like an exciting and different way of doing things!

My question may already be out there, but after an hour of searching, I thought I should ask.

Can you copy states from one picture to another? For example, I have 5 pictures which I want to have 3 states. Normal (which is normal), visited (which is greyed out) and active (which is increased contrast and brightness).  Rather than having to set these up for each individual picture, is there a way to copy the states over quickly?

Thanks!

Josh

It just goes to show you that no matter how long you've been using something you can always learn something new. It didn't even occur to me to use the format tool to copy states.  I've been working on multiple process flows connected to description layers and recreating all the states for each process step individually.  What a time saver!

It's always fun to see ten year old posts that say, "You should request this as a feature."  It's like going to the Microsoft site and seeing, "This thread has been locked."  You know there is no solution.
That said, it's great the users come up with workarounds!

    Thanks Rebecca and Mary!

I tried to format and only certain things copied over....quite the nuisance to have go back and format

Hi Guillaume Isnard and other community members. I guess format painter option is far better than using copy states options in my opinion if that option exists in SL. Format painter would give us an ability to reduce the amount of time that we spent while copy pasting the state of one object and then pasting them to the other objects.

Am I overlooking the significance of copy/paste states option within SL?

    I mean no offense!

    Thanks a lot!!

Hi Sandeep, it may work fine if there are no other formatting options that are transferred. But if one image needs a drop shadow and the other doesn't, you're just swapping which formatting you have to change/remove.

It also means that the programmers thought about creating a "copy/paste states" command but decided not to make it an individual command.  It's too bad really.  Let's say it takes Articulate 1000 hours to create this feature (there's no way it would take 1000 hours, but I'll be liberal with the estimate).  There are over 120,000 organizations using Storyline, so let's be conservative and say there's 250,000 users.  If every user saved exactly one hour a year using this feature, that 250,000 yearly hours of work saved by a one-time 1000 hours of investment (and yes, I realize there's programming implications for each update, but that investment is miniscule in relation to the numbers discussed above.

I recently needed to find and replace instances of a font in a 300 slide training program.  In SL360, I can only blindly change all fonts in a document. Think about what could happen to formatting if I did that.  Now, it's obvious that Articulate has already programmed a way to find instances of a font, they just don't provide a way for the end user to do it.  Kinda sad that this company thinks so little of the end user.  Now imagine if Articulate actually looked at feature requests and implemented them.  What a great company they would be!

Hi Richard Slate, TQSM for educating me on this. I totally agree with you on how seriously the people at Articulate would consider our requests/proposals. I've seen posts with feature requests that have been posted years ago and yet articulate doesn't take any action on that.

Since I haven't come across the use of copy/paste state of an object, I might be missing its significance use until I learnt something from you!

    TQSM again!!

      Hello Debbie,

      Happy to chime in!

Icons can't have states because they consist of multiple shapes, and only singular objects can have states. if you'd like to add states to an icon, you'll need to convert it into a shape first. Here's how you can do this.

You also can't copy and paste states since they only exist within the base object. You can however duplicate a state if you're planning on reusing existing elements.

Let me know if you have any questions!

  • I'm making a quiz and have many questions. I want to change the state "hover".
Doing it for every question will take so many time so I want to know if it's possible to copy the state "hover" please
