Custom Drag and Drop: Drag Items and Motion Paths
I am experiencing an issue with drag item behavior in a custom drag and drop slide (not using freeform).
This drag and drop activity has two attempts. When the user submits the first attempt, the slide reveals which drag items are correct and which are incorrect. When the user clicks "continue" to retry a second attempt, the incorrect items return back to their starting position (using motion paths). The correct items stay in place.
The issue arises during this second attempt when the user drags the returned drag items to a drop target. SL is pulling the drag item that was originally placed (during the first attempt) on that drop target, even though the user is now dragging a different drag item to that drop target.
I have attached the file I am working with. Thank you in advance for any insight or advice on ways to fix this!
Hello Julie and Walt! ✨
I'm happy to share that we have released a new update for Storyline 360 (Build 3.76.30446.0).
In this update, we have implemented a fix for:
- Drag-and-drop interactions behaved erratically after multiple attempts.
As a first step, I recommend updating Storyline 360 to the latest version. Here's how:

Hi, Julie.
Thank you for reaching out!
We have a possible bug logged where drag items in drag and drop interaction act erratically in succeeding attempts if the drag items have a motion path.
This current workaround is to use the options Free or Snap to Center under Drop Target Options:
- Select all your target items.
- Right-click and choose Drag-and-Drop.
- Select either Free or Snap to Center.
I hope this helps!

While you are waiting for a bug fix, here is a sample that uses a pick one interaction to return incorrect drops to their original spots. The different slides return while you watch, when dropped, or when you click submit.
