Drop down list not read in JAWS

There is a drop down activity we built using the Drop down matching template but we found that the list within the dropped was not read in JAWS we tested it using both JAWS version 16 and 18. The activity was created using Storyline 360.  Is there a solution kindly let us know.

  • No update yet, Michelle, but thanks for checking in! Now that you're subscribed to this discussion, you'll be notified as soon as we share news here.

  • I built an interaction using this method for a module and during accessibility testing it completely failed, and I don't understand how it's been over a year and there's no resolution in sight...

  • Hi Ludovic,

Thanks for adding your voice here, and sorry for the added trouble. Our team is working on some additional enhancements and fixes for accessibility, so we'll keep folks posted on that as soon as we have more info.

  • Hi everyone,

We're aware of the issues raised in this thread. As Ashley mentioned above, we are working on a wide range of improvements to our accessibility support and will be addressing reported bugs as part of that work.

Please see this post for more details.

  • Hi Michelle!

As Simon mentioned, we have many accessibility features coming! We just released the new Accessible Player yesterday and have more plans for accessibility features in the works! Stay up to date by checking out our What's New page.

It has been over a year since the last comment on this page. Can you confirm whether or not the new Accessible Player update fixed this issue??

      Hello Steve!

JAWS and NVDA will read drop-down lists correctly. I've retested this in our current build, Storyline 360 (Build 3.50.24668.0), and it's working as expected.

Please let me know if you are noticing something different on your end!

  • Are we sure this has been fixed because I have a project right now where JAWS is skipping straight to the next dropdown item and still skipping the question? Storyline 360 most up-to-date version.

  • Hi Garry, and welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community!

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue, but I'm happy to help troubleshoot.

    • May I ask which version of Storyline 360 you are using?
    • Is this happening with one specific file or multiple files?

If you're comfortable sharing your project with us, I'd like to test it out on my end. You can upload it here or share it privately in a support case. We'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete.

Thanks for getting back to me Kelly, I am using the most recent release of Articulate 360, that was the firs thing I checked, I have this happening on a few projects so I do not think it is isolated to a specific file. As for sharing, I will have to check on that, but doubtful because of security requirements. I could try to mock something up but do not have availability to JAWS to test for the issue as that review process is done from a different team for this organization.

        Hi Garry,

Looks like the behavior you're experiencing is a bit different from the bug that is discussed in this thread. The bug in this thread causes JAWS to not narrate drop down lists correctly. It looks like what you're experiencing is JAWS skipping straight to the next dropdown item and skipping a question, presumably on one of your question slides.

We recommend reaching out to our support team by opening a case so we can troubleshoot the behavior properly. Having a mock up of how your project file is built will help us a lot in understanding what's happening. Feel free to include that if you decided to open a case, or upload it here so we can take a look.
