Edit Group Objects States

Right now I can edit states of individual objects. However, when I organise a selection of individual objects into a group, there is no way to edit that group's state. If I have 5 identical objects with an identical state, I cannot change this 5 objects to the same state without using 5 different triggers. And if they have more than one identical states, the number of triggers required would increase exponentially. Is there a simple solution to this? If not, could Articulate look at finding a solution in future upgrades?

  • From time to time, I hear strong arguments for not using groups. This is one of those.

There is a simple solution that may apply to your case. It will work if you don’t want any of the objects to do anything independently. I don’t think you do, because you organized them as a group, which prevents independent action.

Create and copy one such object.

Edit its states. Paste the original object in any of the places you want the “other” objects to appear (which is the same way you would create them). You can place objects in states in places other than the original location.  Modify any states as necessary.

Result: One object, one trigger, and none of the drawbacks of groups.

  • Thanks, Walt. Tried that idea just before you posted. Still, I think a group-state edit function in Articulate would come in handy. Imagine you have 10 objects in a group, each object has 10 states that are identical to those in the other objects in the same group, just creating each state using this method would be very time consuming.
