Emailing Notes to a learner

So, here's my conundrum: We're introducing a new technology that all of our manufacturing employees will need to learn how to use. It will be a change from how we've done things for decades, so I think it's going to be helpful for them to have a cheat sheet available until they get used to the new workflow.

I'm creating the course in a way that will allow them to take notes as they go through the content. But I want them to be able to email the notes to themselves once they've finished the course. Essentially, I want to be able to create a field where they enter in their own email, hit send and Storyline takes care of the rest. Not all of these employees will have Outlook on their computers. Most of them are manufacturing floor people who share a computer that is next to their work areas. So, I'd like to be able to have them just enter their own email and have the notes directly sent to them.

Is that even possible? If so, how would I accomplish this?

"Not all of these employees will have Outlook on their computers."

I don't mean this to be rude, but how will these folks without Outlook get an email sent to them?

If they can get an email, and you're thinking of using a "mailto" method of generating an email with all their content specified in the "body" you could run into character limits if they try to send too many notes.

Aside from that, you'd need some dynamic web email app to send it to.

I've created a note-taking activity in the past. Notes taken throughout the course get compiled as a JavaScript generated HTML page that can then be sent to printer.

Will there be a printer nearby they could send an auto-generated HTML page to print?

They access it through the employee portal in our website. About 10 percent of the people taking this will be in supervision and have Outlook. Otherwise, it's manufacturing employees.

There are some printers on the floor, definitely. They occasionally need to print documents to go with products they are building.

  • I am very interested in this.  I am producing an eLearning course and have resources available to the student.  I want them to be able to email the resources (PDF format) to themselves so they have them available later in electronic format.  Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
