feedback master button states not being inherited by feedback layers
Hello All,
If I create a brand new project, and add a multiple choice question, and then look at the states for the Continue button on the Correct feedback layer, here’s what I see (notice the Down state):
If I go to the Feedback Master, and look at the states for the continue button on the Correct feedback layout, this is what I see:
As you can see, in a brand new project – having changed absolutely nothing – there is already a disparity between the Down state of the Feedback Master Correct Layout, and the Correct Feedback Layer it governs.
This disparity is highlighted if I change a state on the master, because the state does not get inherited by the layers – irrespective of whether the layers existed before I made the state change, or if I add a brand new MC question after I made the state change.
Here I have changed the color of the Down state on the Feedback Master Correct Layout.
When I create a brand new MC question and view the Correct layer, here’s what the states look like:
Am I misunderstanding something? Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

Hi John!
Great question! To speed up finding a solution, I recommend working with our Support Engineers because of their expertise. We are continuously tracking customer impact, testing files, and determining workarounds.
If you haven't started working with our Support Engineers, we'll start by testing a file. Feel free to use this link to share your file.

Having the same problems here! I have about 65 feedback layers where the states of the Button need to be changed manually with the format-painter because the changes made to the feedback master don't update on the layers in my question banks.
The story I'm working on will serve as a template for other eLearning-modules, so I might have to change my buttons again depending on feedback from my colleagues.
Is there any news about a fix (for SL3)?
Hi Conor!
We haven't released a fix for this bug in Storyline 3. I understand how frustrating this must be especially considering the number of feedback layers you've built.
I'm checking with our Engineering team to see if there's an update we can share. I'll report back to this discussion shortly!
Hi Conor!
We've confirmed that we still see this bug in the latest version of Storyline 3 (Build 3.10.22406.0) and Storyline 360 Update 40 (Build 3.40.22208.0).
I've generated a new report to share with our team. You're in the right place for more information!

Hello! I have the latest version of Storyline 360 and feedback masters are the bane of my existence. You can see that, using the feedback masters, I have selected this light grey for the background of the feedback boxes:
In slide view and preview, the "Correct" layer matches the feedback master.
However, the "Try Again" and "Incorrect" feedback boxes are now a very dark grey, and the header font has changed from black to white.
Whyyyyyyy?????? This is suuuuper frustrating.- DanCox-2055bfcaCommunity Member
Having a very similar issue. I have set up the Feedback Master to have specific language in the Feedback boxes, however, when attempting to input the layer not only does the language change but the 'Continue' button is no longer where it should be, and I have to select the 'Modern' Feedback Master even though the SL player is Modern. Please see the attachments below.

Hey Dan!
Thanks for reaching out and sharing these screenshots! I'm sorry you're facing a similar issue. I want our support engineers to take a closer look at your file and help determine what's causing this. Can you privately upload your .story file with this link? Then we'll be in touch soon after with an update!
Hi Heather,
Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you are experiencing in your project.
With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

Any news after 11 months of silence on this issue?

Ahhh - interesting that this remains unresolved after sooooo long. I had moved on from this after just getting pushback for months, but as I still have an outstanding support ticket on this - last communication from support being more than 2 years ago saying they're looking into this - if this ticket is still active I'll see if I can get any response. It appears that so many of us have spent a lot of our time providing working files as proof of this issue - so hopefully we can get some joy here!
I really don't think this can be considered 'low impact' as I was previously told, and can't imagine this is a difficult issue to resolve. Please, please support - can we work at ticking this one off your list. :) :)- DianneHopeCommunity Member

Agree, feedback states/buttons hasn't really worked correctly for the last three years.
Hi Will,
I cannot confirm that it's currently in a queue, but there are two issues here that are on our radar:
- The feedback layer does not inherit the font style and color changes in the feedback master.
- Editing states on the feedback master does not change the states on the feedback layer.
There is no workaround, so be sure to make the adjustments manually on the layers.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Kevan. No worries if you cannot share a file for us to take a look at, but thank you to those who do so that we make sure we cover as many scenarios as possible when testing.

Thanks Leslie for the update. The workaround though is not really a workaround - it is just not using the feedback master. Making the adjustments manually on the layers defeats the point of having a master layer. I know I asked for what to do instead though.

Hi Leslie
Can I summarise and clarify the current situation with you?
- a number of issues with the feedback master have been identified and communicated by members of this community - going back more than 5 years, according to this conversation thread
- multiple support tickets have been opened, and continue to be opened, so as testing on these known issues can be done by your engineers
- there is no workaround for these issues - adjustments need to be made manually on every single layer of every single slide of every single course or template that is affected
- these issues are not currently in a queue to be fixed
- there is no proposed date for when these issue will make it into that queue
Thanks!

In the absence of a reply to this post and in an effort to be transparent about what I know about a possible resolution to the issues with the feedback master - here is the thread of conversation on my support ticket...
