Grouping glitches are egregiously bad

I still don't understand why, after all these years, Articulate Storyline glitches so badly after trying to undo decisions regarding groups of objects.

Why do all of the objects suddenly become scattered and even more messed-up when I try to undo a simple mistake??? Now I have to close out of the software and most likely return to an earlier version that likely didn't save some of my other content development.

This glitch is really annoying. Can that please be fixed??

  • Hello EdwardAgadja170,

Thanks for bringing this up. I can see how frustrating that experience must be. I recorded a quick demo using the attached Storyline file to show how things are working on my end when I undo changes involving grouped objects. Here’s the recording.

I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue, so it might be something specific to your setup or project.

If a Storyline repair doesn’t solve the issue, feel free to upload the project file here or privately in a support case. A screen recording of what you’re seeing would also be really helpful.

Let us know how it goes. We’re here to help!

It just happened again. I can't share it because it has sensitive information.

I am surprised there hasn't been more feedback about that...

      Thanks for reaching out

        Hi EdwardAgadja170!

Glad to see Eric has been helping you!

Can you confirm if you only notice this behavior with Slide elements that have been "Nested"? Nesting involves placing a new object within an already established grouping of other objects. I ask because we are currently tracking a bug in Storyline 360, which affects the undo behavior of nested groups. This bug causes nested groups to not revert to a previous position, after an Undo command is issued.

Like Eric shared, I was also unable to replicate the behavior you mentioned with a standard group of objects. However, once I nested another object into the group, then the Undo behavior became erratic.

If this example aligns with your experience, I'd be happy to include your voice in the bug report we are currently tracking.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

  • I know what EdwardAgadja170 is talking about, and I experience the same issue from time to time. I've never taken the time to remember or record what exactly I was doing with the grouped objects before it happened, but it definitely happens. And when it happens, hitting Undo will not put the objects back as they were, which really stinks.

      Hi rachelatkaiser!

Sorry to hear you've also been struggling with the undo behavior in Storyline!

As I mentioned to EdwardAgadja170, it would be helpful to know if this behavior only occurs when working with objects that have been "Nested" into an existing group. If so, then I can confirm the issue is related to an existing bug in Storyline 360.

If this has been your experience as well, I'm happy to include your voice in the bug report that's being tracked!

        Hi Steven,

No, for me, it's not something that occurs when working with nested objects. I'll try to pay closer attention the next time it happens so I can report back but I know it's not connected to nested objects. I actually didn't realize you could add new objects to existing groups until recently. Thank you for checking, though!
