How can I only play a scene audio the first time the user sees the screen?

Hi e-learning heroes!

This is my first time using Storyline for a diploma project. I'm adding audios for some scenes for learner direction. On scene 6 I have an audio directing the learning to click on the first topic, but it replays every time they return to the same content screen of course!

Is it best to duplicate this scene and add a new audio directing to each new topic? Or is there a way of adding a trigger which means the audio is only heard once the first time scene 6 is visited?

Thank you!

Ruth

  • Hello Ruth,

    Thanks for reaching out!

The best way to control when an audio file with play is through the use of a combination of triggers and variables. You can add a True/False variable to your course with a default value of false that your audio file will reference, and then use triggers to adjust this variable to prevent the audio file from playing by changing the variable's value to True. All this is done using the 'Play media' trigger.

I've included a sample project file so you can get a better idea of how this can be applied to an actual Storyline 360 course.

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Hi Joe,

Thank you for such a quick response. I've got as far as 'adjust variable' and 'new variable', but I can't see the variable for audio control that you have in your demo? If it's a complex process set up I may just remove the audio for that scene...

    Thanks again!

      Hi Ruth,

Here's a screenshot of the variable that I setup.

All of the triggers that I added to the slide refer to this variable. The audio file will play if the value of this variable is false and the audio will not play on the slide once the value is changed to true
