How do i add a hint caption, OR convert a regular caption into a hint caption?

Still learning to use storyline, and deleted my hint captions thinking I could add them back. I have searched and read so many support pages and threads on here, and for the life of me cannot find a way to insert a hint caption. About to pull my hair out! Please help.

If I understand what you are asking, you deleted the Hint Captions object that appears on its own layer and is triggered by a hotspot. I'm assuming you still have the hotspot and the layer; otherwise, you'll have to recreate those as well.

To add the caption back in, go to the Hint Layer, and select the Caption icon in the menu at the top. Select the type of caption box you want, place it and add your text.

On the base layer, make sure you have a trigger that shows the Hint Caption layer when the user hovers over the hotspot with the following options selected. Also, make sure this trigger is in the correct order in your triggers panel:

Let me know if that helps or if I didn't understand your question.

  • Hi, Lauren.

Would it be easier to re-insert the video as you recorded it? It should bring back the hints.

If so, go to Slides > Record Screen, and select the original recording.

You will be presented with the options and will be able to choose the mode you need:

      Maria,

Of course I complicated the whole process! :)  I was back-engineering SL projects this week and had my mind set on the manual approach. Thanks for reminding me to keep it simple!

definitely not easier, in fact one of the most frustrating parts of this software is that it doesnt store the "edited" version with the unwanted scenes culled. thank you for your suggestion, looking forward to the day when this feature is implemented

  • Hi, Richard.

I think it's great you shared that suggestion, as it's an alternative if someone had already done edits to the recording and didn't want to re-create all the changes from the original!

do you guys not offer live chat anymore for premium users? no matter what browser i open, it lets me fill out the chat form but there is no button or option to submit or start a chat.

  • Lauren,

I am not employed by Articulate so I can't help with the chat question. Hopefully Maria will stop back in and address.

In regard to layers, you can add a new layer to a slide by clicking the new layer icon in the bottom right corner of your panels.

  • Hi Lauren,

I can see that you were able to connect to live chat with Ronaziel and you're working together to get back up and running properly.

Thanks for your reply. That was actually for a separate issue, to try to deal with why storyline crashes/ freezes and deletes/corrupts files so frequently. Its exhausting to work with and despite following all of Storylines suggestions and best practices, my team is dealing with it very regularly. From reading through these support forums it seems like these issues have been happening for years without resolve. I don't feel like ive come away with any answers after speaking to that agent on live chat.
