Closed Captioning issues

I noticed a bug that when working with closed captioning in Storyline, the CC-text isn't being refreshed correctly.
If I make an exercise with audio & closed captioning and my true/false responses also have audio & closed captioning, the text of the CC-text on the main timeline remains visible on top of the CC text of the true/false layer when I click the submit button if the audio on the main timeline is still playing.

I can hide/disable the submit button until all audio is spoken and all CC text is gone, but in some cases users want to answer quickly and not wait until voice over is finished.

Can this be fixed in a future update please?

  • Hello Ron, thank you for your reply.
I tested quite a bit further since I made a custom "pick one" slide and a Standard True False Question indeed doesn't have this issue.

Apparently it has something to do with how Storyline handles the timeline (and the pausing) of the baselayer in my specific project.
I had a counter on the feedbacklayers that added 1 "when timeline starts".

If I removed the counter everything worked fine, even more specifically, if I altered it to add 1 "when timeline reaches cuepoint" (instead of when timeline starts) it also worked as intended.

However if I try to reproduce this on a brand new project I can't seem to reproduce the issue.

So if anyone should ever encounter this very specific bug in an existing project .. remove the counter or alter it to reach a cuepoint :)

  • Are you using the Standard True False Question form in Storyline or did you create your own?  The True False that is baked into Storyline does not have this issue in my testing.  I am curious if you have customized your slide in some way.  Are you able to share the slide?
