How to make object appear to shake when hovering over?

Hi all,

Is there a way to make an object "shake" when the user hovers over it?  I can't seem to find anything on this in the community or in animations...all help appreciated!

  • There are no emphasis animations. You could try using a tight scribble animation. But it will be tricky to use on hover.

  • To Phil's point, You need something to trigger the motion, something to continue the motion, and something to stop the motion. However, a few triggers, variables, and a few hot spots along with a T/F variable can do the trick. See attached SL2 file.

Thanks Owen, not had chance to look at the file. My first thoughts were to show a layer with the object repeated on the layer but hidden on the base layer when the layer shows, with a motion path applied and then just add trigger to move the object when the animation completes.

I always have reservations with this type of hing on hover because at some point flicking the mouse across the screen quickly often breaks the restore function.

Looking forward to having a look in the morning.

It's not exactly what you're looking for, but maybe this thread here still provides some useful info.

  • We need Storyline to give us emphasis animations similar to PowerPoint's emphasis animations. There are many times when I want to use something like "shake". Ideally, I'd like these to be controllable via triggers, too (similar to the move trigger for motion paths).

    Cheers!

  • How about using a gif file for hover state? That might be the easiest way to do so.

  • I was trying to simulate electrical noise. The gif idea worked beautifully!
